I teach Foods I and II to high school students and have recently taken a cake decorating course. I have some basic skills - Flowers, stars, sugar molding, and the like. If you need a cake made that has yummy buttercream icing and is pretty, let me know and we can work out a price.
Here's a few examples of cakes I've made. I also did a golfer's cake recently but I will post that in a few days once I get the pics uploaded.
Made for Coach Peacock's baby shower: Probably not my best but I used this cake to demonstrate to my class so they did some of it and I rushed some too. The peapod was 3-D and about an inch high and 4 inches wide. Made from sugared buttercream icing and hand molded.
Made for nolefaniam's daughter:

Those look pretty cool. I actually have your other cake thread bookmarked, from a long time ago. I don't have an occasion right now to get a cake, but I'll definitely come to you when I need one. 5/19/2008 8:48:57 PM |

Yeah, that other thread was a while ago. I don't really clean houses anymore since I have a job now so I thought I would make a new thread just for cakes.
Thanks for thinking about me. I will be glad to help you out when you need me.

Pawprint not only makes good looking cakes, but they are the best tasting as well. I need a birthday cake for 5-27 (reg size). As much as it hurts to do this, I need the University of Florida logo on it.
^^ That would be you my friend... You started working on making that second million yet?

hey so actually... my boyfriend's little brother is "graduating" 5th grade. i was thinking about making a cake, but yours look better. however, i'm gonna have to drive said cake from raleigh to kitty hawk (3.5 hours east) soooo do you think your cakes can hold up to long car trips? 5/21/2008 6:29:25 PM |

^^^nolefaniam-send me a pm with the dates you need this and any other specifications...such as..sheet cake or layer...what filling if any....any other decoration? If you google uni. florida cakes, try to find an example of something you would like and I'll be glad to help you out.
^^As far as cakes holding up on long car trips...WELL, the problem becomes the heat melting the buttercream. I use meringue powder so it makes the icing get a "crust" after it dries so it should be fine. It also depends on what you want. I would NOT send a three layer on a car trip..but a sheet cake will be fine if you put it in the floor and don't leave the car off for more than 5 to 10 minutes.
^I am not sure...but I bet my granny could. She is an amazing baker. Much better than me, I'm sure.
I also think cupcakes would be great too. I love the whole "cupcake tree" with little individually decorated cupcakes.
If you would like to see what I am capable of, send me a picture to try and I will try it out and get some practice.

This is the golfing cake I made last week. It was a two layer square with buttercream filling. I only spent about 3o minutes decorating this one so you can see it is sort of plain.
I'd make a cake like this for $15, just to give an idea of price.
I am still not great at writing with icing so I got some guide letters to help me out. The "fore" on that cake is sort of running into the "y" above it. It's the hardest part of decorating, I think.

$15 seems like a good deal, but what do i know? Do you lay out the text on paper before you ice it? That could probably help, that, and practicing handwriting so that you make every letter the exact same every time. 5/22/2008 10:49:15 AM |

Actually, I do practice on a sheet inside a page protector. It helps perfect the technique. I know I can improve so that is what I am trying for now.

I spent my afternoon making cupcakes for our cookout tomorrow and also making a birthday cake for nolefaniam's wife.
Here's me hard at work...
The final outcome...not too shabby.
From the side---I'm upset it looks like it's rough in the photo because it's actually pretty smooth.

a friend of mine just got engaged. this will be his second marriage (he's like 50) and he's turned into quite the married man already. he used to be all filthy mouthed and stuff but i think this woman has got him on the ropes. anyway, i like to give him a hard time about it so if you could think of a clever bachelor's party cake (ball and chain, etc.) that would be great. no rush, the wedding is not until january, but maybe i can get some ideas (from twwebbers as well) in the meantime. 5/28/2008 11:19:09 PM |

Wow January is quite a ways away but we can still chat about it. I wonder how the new wifey would take the ball and chain??
I'm making a groom's cake this fall...a submarine and navy emblem for my bestest's fiance.
I signed up for course 2 tonight and it will begin next week. I'll try to get a picture of my final cake. I did 5 roses and some drop flowers and sweet pea flowers. It was nothing special...I'm not incredibly pleased with the final outcome but my car was screwing up and I was late for class so I was a bit frazzled.
Anyhow, I have a few pm's to reply to so I will get to those of you who pmed me. 5/29/2008 10:36:15 PM |
