I guess this is as good a place as any to put this.
Quote : | "It’s the demographics, stupid: Besides the public polls, how do we know that Clinton is poised for victory in Kentucky, while Obama is sitting pretty in Oregon? According to Democratic politico Mike Berman, Obama has dominated the states with the largest or smallest black populations, while Clinton fares MUCH better in the states in between. Berman writes in his Washington Political Watch that Obama “has won 12 of the 15 contests in which the African-American population is less than 4%, and 10 of the 11 contests in which the African-American population is greater than 16%. In those 18 states where the population ranges from 4%-16%, Obama won 8, while Clinton won 11.” The African-American population for Kentucky? 7.3% For Oregon? 1.6%. As one Republican politico told us, these aren't primaries anymore; they’re census surveys." |

Well it's hard to bicker about race when the major players are all the same race. Not a slam against Republicans, just that there's a lot of stuff coming to the surface that hasn't had to be dealt with before.
^There's always been something of a schism between feminism and movements for racial equality. Recently Gloria Steinem caused a ruckus when she suggested that gender trumps race.5/20/2008 12:57:29 PM |

they only make up like 3* percent of the total population
thats not really a "demographic" imo
blacks are like 11 percent of population...half are women, so that leaves like 5.5% black males...weed out the non hard workers and i'd say about 3 percent

The number of cans in your statement make it a little unclear, but Limbaugh is a moron anyway, so it's neither here nor there.
I will say Obama's campaign has been more divisive than I expected. Granted a lot of that is due to him fighting Hillary's fire with fire, but even still, he's losing any kind of populist appeal he may have had. His wife isn't helping his case either. 5/20/2008 4:09:29 PM |

it seems to me clinton's biggest advantage is to win appalachia
the mountain folk
and she wants to claim there's a demographic obama can't win? he can't win the blue collar vote?
fine, clinton can't win the educated vote
now we're back to square 1 (which was an awesome show on pbs) 5/21/2008 12:06:50 PM |

Quote : | "The Oregon exit polls lend a bit more weight to the theory that Barack Obama's real problem is more with Appalachia than it is with working class whites in general, as the Hillary campaign has repeatedly suggested.
In Kentucky yesterday, Hillary slaughtered Obama among these voters. But the Oregon exits show a different story.
Obama beat Hillary by sizable margins among all ages of white voters except those 60 and older. And he beat Hillary among voters with no college degree, too -- and since the state is overwhelmingly white, these voters are the ones he's supposed to have trouble with." |

ive been to kentucky, and when i lived in ohio, we tried to keep those people from from coming over.
no joke, they love to wave their confederate flags while drinking whiskey and hollering along with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
but when you tell them that Kentucky fought for the Union, man they git madder'n a rattlesnake tryna bite a fencepost.
Something's a bit off with those people... they're a bit better than, say, West Virgina or Arkansas, but I swear that state just ain't right. 5/22/2008 12:44:07 PM |
