So I have a Dell XPS somethign somethig I bought in 2004. It has XP on it and is a fuckign beast. Even now it's still one of the fastest computers around, which is very suprising. 800GB hard drive, 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, it's nice.

I just moved into a new place and setup my computer, and everythign worked fine. But yesterday I go to turn it on, and right as the startup was going (the black screen where is says press F2 to setup and stuff) It starts making this annoying audio beeping/ringing noise. It's the same kind of noise you hear when you hold a key on the keyboard down too long and it starts ringing. This has never happened before

anyways, i press a button and it stops, then takes me to a screen that asks if want to start in safe mode or normal mode, etc. I just say start normally. Everything starts up as normal, and nothing seems out of the ordinary, except one strange thing, which is on my mozilla window my bookmarks (favorites for IE) are all deleted. I went and put htem back in, they are there now, but I just found that odd. Nobody has been using this computer but me. I doubt the two are related, but it does seem kinda coincidental that it occured

anybody have any idea wtf is wrong with my computer? I have a wireless keyboard that i just replaced with new batteries (aroudn the same time as the beeping started) but all the buttons are working

although i just noticed if I try to type a capital o by hitting the left shift button and 'o' I get nothing. I can type little 'o's and I can press the right shift button and get a capital 'O'. This is weird.

thanks TWW

lol

i don't like to go with the obvious answers here.

it's the dell wireless keyboard that came with the computer when i bought it. Be a shame to ditch it. Maybe i'll try startup with the keyboard disconnected and see if i get a different response

or, since that will give you a bios error, plug in a different keyboard
