does anyone know any of the specifics to hacking this service?

the goal is gonna be NFL Sunday Ticket for free.

if you'd rather not talk about it in this thread, PM me.

I've done a little searching, and it doesnt look like DirectTV has had a problem since 2005.

anyone with hacked satellite (directTV in particular) send me in the right direction to get things underway.

ever since directv did their genius virus a couple of years back

i think the directv hacking community no longer exists

they basically sent out updates to cards that made no sense at all... they did this over the span of like 2 years... and all the hackers just went "wtf?"

turns out each of those updates was part of a virus that put the smartcard into an irreparable endless loop

the virus stayed dormant on the cards for a couple of weeks after they had finished sending the virus

and then all at once, they sent out the trigger signal

and instantly, every hacked directv card no longer worked

honestly, i've gotta give them mad props for this, that was pretty fucking inventive.

"Black Sunday" end of the H-card's. http://www.securityfocus.com/news/143

The HU cards that followed the H cards were simply phased out with what they have now. Basically the way it reads, is that DirecTv used a security company to create the software on the smartcards. DirecTv eventually wised up and decied to bring the smartcard development "in-house" to better prevent the leaks of known flaws becoming public knowledge.

If you are looking for free tv, I suggest you search for FTA receivers. From what I see on some of the site, you dont need a card at all. Just a memory card or serial cable to program the receivers. Basically this is just a condensed emulator setup, without all the fuss of a emu board and PC.

To the best of my knowledge (which I'll admit isn't extremely up to date) DirectTV isn't hackable anymore, at least not easily.

Dish Network is where it's at (although no NFL Sunday Ticket, however)

like ablancas said, the keyword is FTA.

There are tons of companies out there that make satellite receivers that you can upgrade the firmware on.

I have a Pansat 3500 that I've used to get all the Dish Network stuff for the last year or so with no major issues. The service goes out about once a week and you have to download a new bin file to re-enable it, but usually there's a new file up before you even notice it's out.

Where do you get these files? Do you need a dish for this too, or just a receiver?

just the receiver - get someone to sit on your roof with some aluminum foil and have them cup their hands towards the southwest sky instead of having a dish...

google?

Well obviously you need a dish. I actually found mine in a ditch on the side of the road. Well actually some friends of my dad did and they put it on the back of his truck as a joke and sure enough, it worked just fine.

I gets my files from future-fta.info

I figured you'd say that Noen.

Is it the ethics of it all, that brings you to that opinion, or the chances of litigation?

it's having lived with a kid who did this, and having authorities come knock on his door.

its not worth the effort, and the whole scene completely collapsed after the virus. you need a dedicated pc, programmer, and card. and youd need the access codes daily, if not more frequently now. plus they can send a kill signal at anytime that will effectively destroy your card.

the problem is, you cant get the hardware legally, and if you do get it, they will come knocking

I have heard of CoolSat, but dont know if that is what you are looking for, or if it even works.

no they won't

fta receivers have a legitimate use

the only reason they'd come knocking is if you were an active poster on the forums or something stupid like that

they (or dish network) have no way to tell who is using a hacked receiver or not

the only way they can get you is either by ip logs on the sites you download firmware from or if you blatantly admit it somewhere
