anyone know of some good/decent ones? i have recently come into posession of 6 opteron barcelona quad core chips (we upgraded some esx boxes at work) and need a board to run them on.

need one (hopefully) with desktop-ish features and something that will fit in an atx case

sorta strange, i know... but i'd love to have 8... or even 16 cores

and yes synapse, i'll be running fah.

Supermicro has server-grade EATX mobos

such as

these are barcelona chips though (opteron 8000s) - those only support 2000s.

and yeah, i use a lot of supermicro boards at work, was looking for something more desktop-oriented.

sorry I'm not well versed on the current AMD server cpus. Does the 8000 series mean that you can put more sockets per motherboard than a 2000 series? Maybe it would still work in a 2000 mobo?

for example when the first generation opterons came out, a 2xx CPU supported 2-way SMP. But you could still run a single 2xx CPU in a 1-way motherboard designed for a single 1xx CPU.
