considering signing up for the US Army again. if you could get a signing bonus of say, $33K bucks would you do it again?
i'm debating. 3 years is nothing . . . and the Iraq War is basically won according to Bush and McCain. 5/29/2008 12:09:49 PM |

^ dude, this is me trying to escape. i'm really considering the $33K bucks or how ever much the signing bonuses are now and just re-enlisting. i got out as an E4. sh!t should be gravy to do another 2-3 years. i did 4 last time. it wasn't so bad. granted, the war had just started and i was getting out before we realised it wasn't going to be easy. 5/29/2008 12:14:38 PM |

or perhaps a 4 year low of violence is indication that Iraq is stabilizing.
According to Obama, it's still hellfire and rape rooms over there.

I would serve my country for no less than $1,000,000. The opportunity costs of me joining the war far outweigh the benefits, personally and socially. /pretention
My brother is enlisting as a Marine next Tuesday. If something bad happens to him, I will become the military's biggest threat.
Anyway, I say go for it, Amsterdam. What will you do with the $33K dollar bucks? 5/29/2008 4:09:31 PM |
Amsterdam718 All American 15134 Posts user info edit post |
i'd pay off all debts. do the enlistment come out debt free and i think i'd still be able to demand a similar salary if not more when I get out? its just something i thought about . . . but then there's the possibility of combat, which wouldn't make it worth it. but i could do 2 years for $33K bucks. 5/29/2008 4:17:53 PM |

Have you graduated? If not, how many hours have you completed?
Not to peel a scab (and I could be thinking of someone else), but I seem to remember you having some legal and/or drug problems. Are you sure those are behind you for good? 5/29/2008 4:31:05 PM |

pretty much. spoke with my lawyer and he said because it was my first offense and in life i've accomplished military, college, career i'd have probabtion and a sealed file. he said i'd have to do classes. he's delayed it a second time. i did preliminary and that went smooth.
and no. i need like 9 hours to finish my BA. i'd like to take care of my legal stuff and address alot of debt i have. 5/29/2008 4:34:11 PM |

For 9 hours shy, I wouldn't be surprised if the Army has an officer program for which you might be eligible. They seem to have enlisted to officer programs that the other services don't. 5/29/2008 4:38:27 PM |
Amsterdam718 All American 15134 Posts user info edit post |
but the problem is an officer committment is generally longer. like 6 years. being in the military till 2014 is sort of lame. 5/29/2008 4:40:26 PM |

it won't be felonious, B. my lawyer says he'll be able to get it sealed or at least down to a misdemeanor. 5/29/2008 5:38:38 PM |

hahaha, if he wins, i have a feeling obama is gonna shit his pants when he gets the briefings from the pentagon and realizes he cant just back out of the room. not that i know anything specific, i just feel like there are lots of secrets he doesnt know yet. and 6 months is laughable

^ same here. serving wasn't so bad, but its like you're isolated from the real world when you serve. i think its cause most of the other soldiers have never really experienced life (college, cars, divas, etc). so you're amongst the riff raff of America, but at the same time its a humbling experience.
i would do it again if the opportunity seemed beneficial to me. 5/29/2008 8:38:35 PM |
