I went there for the first time in almost a year. I wanted to see it since they "renovated" it. The outside expansion is very nice, unfortunately, Sammy didn't realize that the rest of the place is a complete shit hole.

That is one of the few bars that I would (and did) honestly drive home to take a shit because the restrooms are so disgusting.

What is this business about not serving glass cups after midnight?

It blows my mind that he'd spend $texas fixing up the outside and not renovate his restrooms, shitty tables, tacky zebra print, or actually purchase HD for his HDTVs.

Oh, the "no glass after midnight" is supposed to be a safety rule, but it also saves him money (b/c people break/steal more glasses when drunk). And Sammy is all about whatever will save him money.

At my bar, I've lost up to 50+ pint glasses in a day before when we were doing brewery tours. It's a hassle to order new ones, so we don't plastic too.

Granted we get 24 pint glasses for 7 dollars...

Sammy's has gone way downhill. we used to go there friday afternoons when i was in grad school and we always got good service because the servers recognized us. we went there last f4riday and they took FOREVER and we ended up leaving.

When I first got to NCSU in 2002 Sammy's was pretty damn alright.

And then it has been on a rapid decline ever since.

I drove past last time I was in Raleigh and wondered if anything had changed...I see that it has....again for the worst.

Jax is so much nicer, cleaner, and has a better atmosphere than Sammy's. The owner, Harry, will gladly show you his kitchen at any time during business. I would go so far to say that both times I saw it (un-announced), you could eat off of the floor. That is why I go back time and time again, not to mention their food is infinitely better than Sammy's.

Both are true. But it is also true that those cute waitresses will literally stand at the area where the ordering computer is and talk for 30 minutes while you sit there waiting to order those cheap wings. Who cares if they are cheap if you never get them, and who cares if they are cute if they never come close enough for you to see them, much less get served.

Jax is only better by comparison, Raleigh is hurting for a truely great sports bar.
