sam, it's on mininova.

As I posted in the other Weezy thread, I'm confident that I heard the song w/Babyface in '06.

Is this the actual album or is it just another leak so he can push the release date back again?

Should have listened before I said anything... but another great album from Wayne nonetheless.

^^I'm not so sure about Phone Home. Wayne is an enjoyable rapper, and one of my favs to listen to, but his content isn't on the same level of BIG, Pac, Jay, Nas, etc... So I can't really call this classic. Especially this early.

I actually like phone home.

I agree with ^

I was thinking he might try too hard to deliver a bluprint, illmatic type record. He'd appear fake.

I like this a lot

the albums is dope. you don't have to be a great to make a classic album. Game - Documentary is a classic album. Dre gave him the best production since The Chronic. ATCQ has 2 classic albums and they aren't on the same level as BIG and Jay-Z . . . so a Classic is a timeless album. this is it.

^ i agree that the album is a winner but imho the problem with calling it a classic is the lack of focus. all the songs are good, but he often strays from the original concept of the song with his off the wall references.

which rip are you guys referring to?

it took forever to just get a VBR rip of the roots album. what the hell happened to scene standards

[Edited on May 31, 2008 at 3:12 PM. Reason : .]

well i found one that was 192k but it wasn't put out by an actual group.

yeah, but his wordplay is up there. its up there like jay-z's wordplay. biggie really started it remember, "In the Q 45 on my side". wtf ? he's sufficient though.

the first half of the cd is better than the 2nd. Also, how in the world could Bobby Valentino keep any semblance of a straight face while singing like a siren?

Goddamn, Tie My Hands is a GREAT song.

i wasnt a fan of wayne the rapper ever since the original "tha carter", but this is what i am a fan of with wayne

dude has recently figured out how to just go straight esoteric with his beat selection, no doubt due to the supporting cast of producers guiding him, but i love the beats/sampling on Built the Beat Up & Dr. Carter.

he is a WEIRD dude, and i can't tell if it's an act or he's just gone that far off in his desire to become an "artist", which he is doing very well. his metaphors dont always make the most sense, but he's putting the total package together and it's an enjoyable thing to observe

i feel like dying (or whatever it's actually called) is such a great song...just the aural experience makes you feel the high even if youre completely sober

what kills me about wayne is I'll be enjoying a song, then he just says some retarded metaphor or just general dumb shit that I can't let slide.

examples:
A Milli: "I'm a venereal disease like a menstrual bleed." WHAT?!

Mrs. Officer: "And I beat it like a cop
Rodney King baby yeah I beat it like a cop
Ha Haaa…beat it like a cop
Rodney King baby said beat it like a cop
" there's no need to say that twice. NONE.

Shoot Me Down: "ima do it again like nigga backwards
these niggas backwards but they behind us
now watch me get high like times up
" just, no.

"ima do it again like nigga backwards" i like that line

there are some pretty dumb metaphors on here that make no sense though. like "i'm the definition of definition"

i pretty much like every track though other than "mrs. officer"

You don't know how that mother fucker spells "again." If you noticed the way he talks/raps, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to think that he spells it "aggin." Don't hate cause you can't rhyme.

don't hate b/c I analyze lyrics.

like I said, I know what he was trying to do, but with all the bullshit he's put out lately that makes no sense... maybe, just maybe he should take a few months off.

Now the shit that's actually nice like "Tie My Hands" I fucking love.

^x12 so the song with juelz santana and fabolous is on there? my friend burned that song for me a few weeks back, it's fantastic. it's almost like santana and fabolous were like "oh crap, we're on a song with wayne, we better come strong" 'cause they both have the verses of their lives on that track. not as good as wayne's, but still the by far the best i've ever heard from either of them.

what else? octopuses! what else? oysters!!

yeah, "you ain't got nothin" is definitely one of the highlights

i bought the deluxe edition of this album tonight... the tracklisting on the back does not list 3 of the songs (the standard edition lists these as bonus songs) but they are all on there. I guess they must have printed the tracklisting for the deluxe editions first and added the songs later

couple listens through and here's how i feel

i like the album as a whole

but as individual tracks, i think im much more in love with the production than wayne. this could have been a pete rock type album with just a bunch of hot beats and random dudes spitting over them and i'd have been just as happy.

i just still don't think wayne is that good of a rapper, but he's an incredible artist/showman, if that makes sense

^ i can understand that. but its a classic album. i don't think the Game is that talented as say Jay-Z, but his album The Documentary was classic too. just great work and beats. its like its hard to fuck it up when the sequencing and production is so good.

ok, this album isn't a classic. lets not kid ourselves. I enjoy it a lot, but there's no real CONTENT here aside from Tie My Hands and Misunderstood, but most of that "song" is him talking.

There's top notch production on it, just like the Game's album. And upon more listening, The Documentary would only be 7 minutes long if he wasn't allowed to drop names.

agreed. that's really it in a nutshell

he put out this highly anticipated album, and i would not be surprised if he showed up in XXL Step Yo Rap Game Up section.

he's interesting, and i like his flow...but he's got to have more content, more substance to his rhymes...that's what separates a classic from the next best thing
