Does anyone have any experience with Paypal Merchant Accounts? A coworker of mine is setting up an online store on the side and is considering using paypal but he really hasn't ever used paypal for anything before. Since Ive only used them for the odd ebay purchase, I figured some of your guys would have better advice. Are there better ways out there to accept online credit card payments?

read the documentation that paypal has for it. It's very well written and they have pretty easy written and video tutorials. Your friend should also check out the google checkout as that's growing in popularity. I have clients who refuse paypal.

I can't think of a better solution since it's just gonna be a little income on the side. PayPal's fees get annoying, but you gotta live with it I suppose.

I use it for all my online business needs. Easy to use, and no worries about it. Easy to follow and most shopping carts fully integrate with it.

^not only that, but a lot of shopping carts now have the quick checkout with paypal or google checkout which is a cool feature.

yeah, honestly, i'd go with google checkout over paypal.

both have pretty decent documentation for their respective APIs.

perhaps you should read http://www.paypalsucks.com

they owe me a lot of money.

theyre great for buyers..but their biggest scam is placing a hold on money after someone sends it to you, then they tell you to go ahead and ship the item and theyll release the funds to you after the buyer receives the item..then they never give you the money. at that point you have nothing you can do. they have your money, customer has the product and thinks paypal is awesome.

look up some of the lawsuits too

not saying theyre all scam because i used them for years before they started being sketchy but you should certainly be aware of the risks
