do you really have to withdraw from the university in order to drop the one class you're taking this first summer session ?
Isnt that retarded. Its before the drop date but it says you have to go through the process of withdrawing from the University 6/3/2008 12:03:34 AM |

yea you have to withdraw. i asked earlier today because i'm taking organic and another class and the woman on the phone said i could drop organic (if i failed this exam today) but keep my other class without withdrawing. good luck with that 6/3/2008 12:13:03 AM |

You can get a form from your adviser that will let you drop it past the date. 6/3/2008 7:08:42 AM |

you could also just audit the class...i mean, i think it's too late to get like all of your money back from the course. So you might as well just stick around and not worry about your GPA but still learn something. 6/3/2008 8:06:08 AM |

Paging firegrl23
Iirc since you aren't taking any classes during the summer after you drop your only class you'd need to withdraw for this (summer) semester. They treat summer sessions just like a regular semester in that regard. You get a few people to sign some papers, it's not like you gotta pay a couple hundred in fees or anything. It's the same as dropping all your classes during a fall or spring semester, you'd need to withdraw if you drop all your classes, even if you only took a few classes. 6/3/2008 9:26:07 AM |

ok - this is true for any semester not just summer
currently, you can drop all of your courses online before what we call "census day" listed on the calendar as the last day to register. (i think it gives you a warning but you can still do it)
we then manually go back through each students record and if they drop all their courses after the first day of school we put a withdrawal note on their record.
after that last day to register, if you want to drop your only course (or all of your courses) then we put the burden on you to officially withdraw. usually this occurs through the counseling center with Dean's approval.
summer 2009 - this will change. starting the first day of school you will need to officially withdraw with our office (reg & rec) and then after the last day to register you will have to go through the counseling center as you normally would.
the difference really comes in with tuition/refunds. Check out the withdrawal schedule on the cashier's office website - http://www.fis.ncsu.edu/cashier/Tuition/withdraw.asp 6/3/2008 9:49:03 PM |

I did this a few years ago. I only had one class and needed to drop it. Had to withdraw officially.
They made me go to the counseling center and talk to one of them

I hear ya. I took some bs humanity one summer where the prof tried to put all the normal semester required reading into 5 weeks. That wasn't going to fly.6/9/2008 11:22:27 PM |
