Think I'll cook up some burgers or steaks for dinner tomorrow. You guys have any tasty marinades or preparations?
For burgers, I'll generally mix in some worcestershire, garlic salt, and montreal steak seasoning (put some more on top the burger before throwing it on the grill). Sometimes I'll dice up some banana and/or jalapeño peppers.
For steaks, I'll do salt, pepper, montreal steak seasoning, garlic salt, and a little bit of olive oil brushed onto each side. Basic, but it tends to keep a good natural flavor to the steak.
Any good suggestions? Think I might cook up a few different burgers prepped differently.

Marinate your burgers in this. They're without a doubt the best I've ever eaten.

Nothing in the burgers. Shit ton of cracked black pepper on both sides. Grill 3 minutes per side for a little pinkness. Blue cheese on top. No other condiments. Only toast the outside of the bun.
For steaks, put about 1 tsp of salt on each side of a steak and let sit for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse all salt off the steak and thoroughly pat dry. Apply thin layer of oil and generous amounts of cracked black pepper to both sides. Preheat cast iron pan in 500 degree oven. Move pan to stove on HIGH heat and cook steak 30 seconds, flip, 30 seconds. Move pan to oven and roast 3 minutes per side for rare/medium-rare. Let sit 5 minutes before eating. 6/3/2008 3:10:02 AM |

I made some chicken this weekend with crushed Cheez-Its on the outside. I thought the recipe was crazy, but my bf seemed to like it. Weird.6/3/2008 12:19:32 PM |

if you want a similar way to fry pork chops, without the unhealthy side effect of frying them, coat them with corn flakes or similar and bake them. Still get the crunch without needing flour. 6/3/2008 12:21:05 PM |

2 cups Red Burgundy 1/4 cup Soy 1/4 cup Honey Bunch of Rosemary sprigs
Mix well and let the steaks sit overnight. Season the steaks with S&P and whatever other seasoning before you grill. Season the grill with olive oil immediately before cooking. 6/3/2008 12:21:23 PM |

I've grilled burgers stuffed with cheese and mushrooms before, it was awesome. I got the idea from NCAA football 08 campus legend mode. Crazy I know. 6/3/2008 12:41:48 PM |

rub the meat down with split garlic
marinate your steak in decent red wine (nothing you wouldn't drink) for many hours
IMPORTANT NOTE:
let the meat come to room temperature before you put it on the grill and make sure to let it rest about 5 minutes after it comes off of the grill 6/3/2008 12:57:13 PM |

Pan sear and then broil is a good way to cook steaks without a grill, just ask Alton Brown.
Oh and you probably don't need salt and pepper in addition to Montreal Steak Seasoning, since salt and pepper are two main ingredients in Montreal steak seasoning.
PS- Try and see if you can DVR Good Eats, there was a episode (maybe a rerun) on recently which was all about marinating, seasoning, and cooking steaks in different ways. 6/3/2008 1:43:53 PM |
