Lets see....I oppose Obama on tax hikes, every social issue, foreign policy, domestic policy, and fiscal policy (assuming he takes the normal democratic stance on these issues, since I really havent heard him talk about anything but "change").

McCain would pretty much have to die.....

hmmm...

- McCain pick HuckaFuck for VP
- McCain declares himself a fascist
- Obama becomes my buddy and offers me a position of wealth/power within his administration
- McCain officially announces a foreign policy of invading Iran upon entering office
- Obama promises to legalize pot and end the war on drugs

^ I agree with all of those except ending the war on drugs.

If Obama does a strong pivot to the center now that he's the presumptive nominee, I'll definitely consider voting for him. As it stands, I think he would be better with respect to foreign policy but much worse long-term for the economy.

We could be looking at another New Deal type of massive addition to government with Obama empowered by a Democratic legislature. And as we know, new government programs don't die out, they just get bigger as time goes on. If he can assure me that he won't create ridiculous new programs and entitlements, I'll consider him.

sometimes i could lean Obama (though I never tell you faggots that...oops).
But I always catch myself. What would have to happen would be...

1) Obama would have to clarify what he wants to see happen in Iraq. Does he really want us out of there in 16 months? Under what circumstances (exactly) would he hault withdrawal? Would he ever reverse withdrawal (increase troop levels)? If it turns out that he would be willing to delay withdrawal if the Iraqi government started making more progress (the position of 2007 Obama), I might consider it.

2) Obama would have to clarify his position on meeting with Iran and make it clear what he would not let them develop and build nuclear weapons (he recently said the would do "everything in his power"...does that include bombing?). If he actually takes Iran's ambitions seriously, I might consider switching.

3) Obama would have to articulate a more coherent domestic policy vision. What underlying economic principals connect his hodge podge of policy proposals? If he makes it clear that he understands government works best when it works with markets and that incentives matter when structuring government assistance programs (that means essentially scrapping and re-thinkig his health care reform package), then I might consider switching.

IOW: Obama would have to become a lot more like Bill Clinton (the last great New Democrat). He would have to quit flattering the progressive-dove base and start showing that he fully understands the threat of a failed Iraq and a nuclear Iran and that his domestic proposals are not just re-heated "government is good" clap-trap from the 1970's.

There's still time for him to change my mind.

Socks, to me Obama sounds a lot like Bill Clinton.

he may be pandering to the lockstep liberals, but i think he'll be much more of a centrist. he's too intelligent not to be.

McCain and Bob Barr would have to die, so that the race was between Obama and whatever feces the Green Party smeared across the ballot

and then I'd just save myself some expensive gasoline and stay home on election day.

I can't promise not to hack him up into little pieces later though.

Obama would have to grow a pair and talk some shit about how evil the terrorists really are and call out their bullshit and threaten them with utter annihilation and extinction if they attack us again.

He has to do that instead of trying to start a circle jerk with them while lubing himself up.

I didn't really mean to be insulting. It was meant to be kinda funny (by saying I wouldn't tell anyone I could lean Obama is the same as actually telling everyone). But maybe sarcasm doesn't translate well over tee-dub. Maybe I'll try my hand at Marko style humor...

On a more serious note... the presumption that people who are not for Obama, are in favor of McCain seems the be the failing point of your thread.

Sure we can have the "they're the only real options" argument once again... but how many people who are currently McCain "supporters" had McCain as their first choice before he had secured the nomination?

^ Actually it just sounds like DNL was asking what would make McCain supporters switch to Obama. It's a pretty specific question that excludes people supporting a 3rd party or not voting.

Here is Michelle Obama in a picture with Ms. Farrakhan. Imagine the outcry if McCains wife was posing with a KKK leader's wife.

This kind of shit would have to end right now, if I were to vote for him. Divorce her if she doesn't come out wailing against those kind of people and sorry having dealt with them all her life.

yeah, i dont consider mccain or bush to be a true republican. They are more of a democrat(spending, entitlements, immigration). The dems now are more socialist.

Think about JFK and his "ask not" speech. Todays dems are just the opposite. I think both parties have really shifted left. Thats why ron paul looks like such a loon compared to todays republicans.

Just my opinion.

Actually Obama has been revitalizing the "ask not" aspect of that speech.

And I am bloody sick and tired of people calling Ron Paul a loon. He simply believes in upholding adherence to the document that GOVERNS OUR COUNTRY. Jesus christ...

Because there is nothing suicide bombers fear more than a violent mutilating death?

Plus we all know there is no quicker way to cut off financial support for a cause than to threaten it from the outside. When I see my cause threatened thats when I say - why give money and support?

And best of all, martyrs are horrible for recruitment. There is nothing that makes a young disillusioned boy give up on his dreams faster than seeing a community weep over the memory of fallen heroes.

Moderate reform is the best bulwark against radical reform. This is basically my stance on health care. Universal health care is coming, lets at least try to make it somewhat effecient before things get so bad that everyone is simply automatically enrolled in Medicaid.

He would have to convince me he was going to fuck up the country less than McCain.

That would take a lot considering:

1) his naievete in foreign policy
2) his borderline socialist spending programs
3) his closet reverse racism
