Is it possible that the hymen doesn't rupture during past intercourse or that it can regrow after being ruptured?

Neither Wikipedia nor Web MD mentioned this so I doubt it's possible.

Symptoms / My hypothesis:
My roomie has basically just noticed that she had a trickle of blood that lasted for under an hour after she had intercourse (she had gone about twelve months since the last time it occurred, and another year or so before that). She's freaking out because she doesn't know what to make of the blood, since it wasn't enough to be considered even a short menstruation. She's googled it, I've googled it, and we both can't make heads or tails of it. But basically she states that the intercourse was unlike what she's experienced ever before, so I'm thinking he finally broke the skin?

Background:
She says she's
1. ) Never had an STD
2.) Never had an orgasm except for masturbation (until this particular incident), and
3.) Has had irregular menstruation for about two months due to lethargy related to her job (she hasn't been as busy, it's a "seasonal" thing but hopefully she'll be put to work enough in the next few months to get off her butt and pay some bills).

She's fine... I don't know how else to tell you to make your roommate feel comfortable about the situation... but she is fine. It's the same thing an OBGYN will tell you. If you do it hard enough & it isn't used to it... or it's infrequent... some people bleed. As long as it's over in like 24 hours, tell her she has nothing to worry about.

You can spot after sex for any number of reasons. Hymen regrowth is a little far fetched. There is a simpler explanation.

Irregular bleeding is not unusual when a girl has had her menstrual cycle disrupted. Sex may provoke contractions that could expel some menstrual blood. The cervix also has a rich blood supply and vigorous sex can cause it to bleed like when you have a PAP smear. Vigorous sex and certain positions can also cause minor tearing that may bleed a bit.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

And that is the reason that STD's are such a problem. People listen to their friends or some girl that says oh that's normal. If NCSUKAT really knew what was wrong with you/your roommate, she would a statistics major, she would be a doctor.

GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR.....

regardless of whether it is serious or not, she has insurance or not, she has fucked too hard and that's why... If you have problems don't trust some diagnosis from TWW go to a professional. I don't want to be standing behind your roommate at Harris Teeter one night and her uterus fall out on my foot.

maybe this was already answered but...does she take birth control? that can cause spotting if she took a pill recently at the wrong time. you can also just bleed from irritation if she wasn't sufficiently lubricated. i know that is gross but it happens if someone is dry. but yea, i'd say a visit to the doctor is the best bet if she is worried (even with the insurance thing. maybe she could just stop by a free clinic??)

Ok- I know I'm no doctor-- but I've checked out a similar scenario many times. If she can't afford to go to the OBGYN right now, then at least she knows she isn't going to bleed to death or something horrible happen to her right now, especially if it only lasted for < 1hr. Especially if she's been having issues with her period being regular (due to stress or whatever the reason may be) & she just had the best sex of her life, it really isn't something to worry about if it stopped within an hour & hasn't returned. When she has $$ again, it would be wise to get things checked out, but until then-- there's no reason to make her more broke than she already is.

Also, you're male. I wouldn't expect you to understand. If you got a scratch on your knee or small tear in your skin and it bled for a little while, would you go dish out a couple hundred bucks to see a specialist? NO. So calm the fuck down.

I'd have to agree. I know I've made some non-virgins bleed the first time we had sex cause they were too tight. Seems like everyone overlooked your comment about this being the first time she's had an orgasm from vaginal intercourse. Some girls rarely get off on anything less then a power tool, and if this is her and she came from sex with this dude, then I think she just needs to stretch a little and all will be well.

Hmm...I don't think the hymen can re-grow, it's not like a plant or something that will grow back if you don't pick it.
However, your friend may have not had her hymen break completely when she had sex before, especially if she wasn't working on it herself while masturbating.

I had a similar experience, where it took 3 or 4 times to bust up, where it was all spotty and shit after for a few days.
Haven't really had any problems since.

probably not abnormal...As shpenxel said and from my own experience, sometimes it just happens after sex. As long as it stops relatively quickly, it's nothing to be worried about. I'm obviously no doctor and completely unaware of your roommate's personal history, but my guess is it's just some good ol' sex roughed up something that wasn't used to being roughed and, like many small injuries, a small amount of blood is nothing out of the ordinary.
