cigs or both at the same time. Then you won't smoke when you drink. 6/15/2008 1:27:02 PM |

Well, don't they usually say that people with addictive habits will become dependent upon their other addictive habits if they try to quit just one of them?
That is, if you considered yourself an alcoholic and you tried to quit smoking, you'd become more of an alcoholic. I'm not sure if that's some freudian bullshit or what.
TBH I'd quit both at the same time and use something to help you overcome nicotine cravings so you don't fall back into the habit. That's going to be a pain in the ass, but at least you won't risk becoming more dependent upon cigs or alcohol depending upon what you quit first.
Good luck with quitting smoking.

quit smoking for sure
its way worse for you
drinking isn't all that bad for you unless you're doing it to excess and developing a dependency or if the extra calories aren't getting burned 6/15/2008 1:47:03 PM |

I suppose a proper answer depends on whether or not your family has a history of alcoholism and substance abuse.
If your family does have a history with this, drop the beer first (as it's probably killing your productivity and liver more than anything else).
If not, consider dropping smoking first (as getting trashed occasionally hasn't killed off the college student population, but smoking can make it pretty hard to go and do some daily tasks without getting super-winded).
That would be in order of damage control, I'd guess. 6/15/2008 1:48:54 PM |

drinking is going to make it easier to relapse into smoking
cause you'll get drunk and say "fuck it!"
I suggest you quit both and smoke pot whenever you want to do either of those things cause its not addictive
then later quit smoking the pot 6/15/2008 1:52:33 PM |

VERY hard to quit cigarettes if you're still drinking beer. There's a hardcore psychological link between the two. 7/2/2008 1:30:50 PM |

If you quit smoking you won't smell like cigarette smoke, if you quit drinking beer you won't be any fun...so there you have it. Ditch the smokes and keep the brews. 7/2/2008 2:01:07 PM |
