what, prey tell, makes a pair of headphones specifically adapted to gaming? Do they have LED's on them or are just uglier than normal?

What's your price range? Really depends on what you are willing to spend. A decent headset will cost $50-60 and a good one can be 80-100. Add wireless and that doubles the price. 6/16/2008 5:12:12 PM |

a really good pair of headphones could easily be over 180, but yea, throw a price range. 6/16/2008 7:38:20 PM |

Are Shure's good for gaming? 6/16/2008 7:51:27 PM |

no, I wouldn't suggest any type of earbud for gaming, but that may just be me. These are really good for the price, anything much more expensive than this and I say it's on your dollar/you have to be some fucking ridiculous audiophile.

i use these, and say what you want about the look of them, i game alone, so i'd rather have lush comfortable headphones that sound great than some smaller phone headset with lackluster sound quality

Yea, this should fare you fine I would think. Best one I can think of in your range that includes a mic. 6/16/2008 11:23:09 PM |

^i was reading the reviews on those and some people were saying that they break easy. Do you have a pair? If so, what do you think? 6/17/2008 12:04:18 AM |

nah, I personally have never owned a pair of gaming headset that didn't break fairly easily. I owned a pair of Steelsounds 5H v2 for maybe a couple of months before they got a crazy short in the volume switcher, but apparently it's hit or miss. I'll read around for some other pairs a bit.

I would not recommend the Razer Barracuda 5.1s. I think I paid 100 bones for them and the left ear piece broke after less than 4 months.
in fact, i just filled out an RMA request. looks like they have a 2 year limited warranty. wish me luck

btw, the icemat siberias have felt on the inside of the ear pieces, it's VERY comfortable to wear for long periods of time, etc... the mic is a lapel mic.
here's the black one, it's now called the steelseries 51005 http://www.provantage.com/soft-51005~7STNA012.htm http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UP83SG http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=205728929 6/17/2008 10:37:40 AM |

come to think of it the biggest thing i have against headsets are they don't do surround sound (with the exception of a couple surround sound headphones). To me going from 7.1 surround sound to stereo headphones is a big handicap. You can't hear what direction people are shooting from and it's confusing. 6/17/2008 2:36:38 PM |

spending up to $100 on a "gaming" headset is lollercoaster. Ive had the same $25 pair (with discount was $9.99) for over 3 years and I gamed WAY more in college than I should have haha. They still work with 0 problems. 6/17/2008 2:40:08 PM |

yeah, I bought this:

It's a pretty decent headset for gaming, but it really does lack bass. I use my cheap Logitech headphones when I listen to music. I do wish I invested the money for a nice over the ear headset, but none of that 5.1 or 7.1 junk. 6/18/2008 1:07:44 AM |

i just got the hd555's and a separate mic
i tried the medusas as well but 5.1 sound in headphones isn't all it's made out to be. the x-fi card is more than enough.
i actually prefer gaming with my shure e2c's - you don't usually need bass playing an fps, and those things let me hear the minutest of detail in the highs.
besides, wearing the hd555's makes it so all my roommates can hear i'm gaming - it's pretty obnoxious. 6/18/2008 1:40:08 AM |
