Alright so the actual games are over

But I've always enjoyed the draft more than the games anyway

Nine days and counting

Post any news and rumors here, and we can try to figure out who's going where before it actually happens

[Edited on June 18, 2008 at 10:26 AM. Reason : also a thread for Bobcats front office bashing]

Right

Talk about Hickson in respect to where he might go, but no more than any other player in the draft

Grant worked out for the Bobcats a couple days ago...they're obviously projecting him as either a 2nd round pick or as not getting drafted at all, but it would be pretty sweet to see another Wolfpacker in the NBA, especially on the local team

a lot of rumors have miami looking to trade down for mayo, or taking either beasley or rose at 2 & trading them for mayo later in the draft

Miami is obviously going to be affected by what Chicago does, but I've heard who they take or if they'd trade down, etc depends on Marion...if they want to offer an extension to Marion, they won't take Beasley...if Marion is going to opt out after next year they'd be more likely to take Beasley

When you break down the numbers this is a pretty weak draft.

Two players obviously stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Beasley and Love.

Rose did show a big improvement in the 2nd half of the season but until then he looked like a marginal prospect. His shooting will prevent him from becoming a star but he could be productive.

Mayo will be a gunner. He also showed a lot of improvement over the year but his age is clouding peoples judgement. He will score a lot of points on some bad/average teams. Woohoo.

Bayless is a good shooter but his rebounding, turnovers, and steals paint him as an average NBA player.

Speights, Dorsey, and Lofton all look like good prospects.

Gordon, Westbrook, Augustin, and Randolph all look like garbage.

Lopez grades out pretty blah but the Bobcats need size at any cost. Hibbert had a blah year but actually grades out pretty decent because of the previous year. But man is he slow.

I don't know how you could watch the Final 4 and say that Love is a better prospect than Rose

^^Love had one bad game and about 35 very good ones. He'll go to the Grizzlies at #5.

Rose is interesting because he was shitty the first 25 games and good the last 15.

Also he played much better against good teams than he did against bad ones.

His shooting is scary but his size and passing ability are pretty impressive. He can be a solid starter but I can't believe anyone would take him over Beasley.

only if they already had a Shawn Marion or similar 3/4 player

but its pretty given that Rose and Beasley or Beasley and Rose are the two top picks in this draft

Anybody watch Chris Paul play last year? How about Deron Williams? Tony Parker?

Its not that farfetched to take the best PG in the draft to build a team around...in the Bulls case I guess it means they'd try to move Hinrich

The Bulls badly need an inside scoring presence.

Statistically Beasley grades out better than Durant did coming out of college. You'd be nuts to pass him up.

with the hand checking rules they have now, it's hard to pass up a big strong and aggressive point guard. plus rose has a 40 inch vertical.

i wish my knicks could get him.

Quote :
"ESPN’s Chad Ford has some more thoughts over the past few days on what he’s hearing heading into Draft week.

* The Knicks, Nets and Sixers are having a big group workout on Friday in New Jersey. Joe Alexander and Roy Hibbert headline the bill. Alexander has already worked out for the Knicks and appears to be seriously in the mix, along with Russell Westbrook and Danilo Gallinari, at the No. 6 pick. Obviously Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni loves great athletes and GM Donnie Walsh is a fan of gritty players who come to play hard every night. It’s a long shot, but from what I’m hearing the Knicks are genuinely intrigued by Alexander. The Bucks have been eyeing Alexander as a possibility at No. 8. He seems like a perfect fit for new coach Scott Skiles
* The Suns and a number of other teams are talking to the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Nets about trading up in (or out of) the draft.

* The Wolves seem especially ready to make a deal if Michael Beasley isn’t on the board at No. 3. They like several of the bigs in this draft, including Brook Lopez, Kevin Love and Danilo Gallinari, but none of them is worth taking at No. 3

* It appears the Wolves won’t take back veterans, though. Several GMs told me that Kevin McHale is looking for young players only.
* The Knicks’ Donnie Walsh would like to find a new home for Zach Randolph, but he has struggled to find takers. And New York would love to move up a spot or two in the draft to get O.J. Mayo or Jerryd Bayless. If it can’t, much-desired Westbrook might be the target. Word of the Knicks’ interest in Westbrook has generated phone calls from teams trying to get him.
* The Clippers have been looking to move up to the No. 3 spot to get Mayo, and they’ve talked with a number of teams about virtually everyone on L.A.’s roster
* We have, it appears, our first known promise of the draft. Multiple sources say that UCLA’s Westbrook has shut down all workouts and has a promise in the mid-lottery range. Apparently the promise isn’t coming from the Knicks. They like Westbrook at No. 6, but they’re also looking at Mayo, Bayless, Alexander and Eric Gordon. The promise isn’t coming from the Bucks or Pacers; neither team was able to get him in for a workout. That leaves the Clippers at No. 7 and the Bobcats at No. 9. As noted above, the Clippers are trying to move up to get Mayo, so I doubt it’s them. That leaves the Bobcats as the most likely to have made a promise to Westbrook.
* One other possibility: The Seattle SuperSonics have taken a strong interest in Westbrook, according to sources. Although No. 4 is a little higher than expected for him to go, one source said it’s possible that the Sonics will trade down a few spots and take Westbrook.

"

Lot's of talk about teams shuffling around in the early to mid lottery.

i'd like to see how that site or those stats rated the last few draft classes before the drafts...ie did they have Dwight Howard as much better than Okafor, or did they actually have Okafor ranked higher?

In regards to that Westbrook video, that's Jamal Boykin flopping on defense.

Duke transfer, go figure.

This Westbrook video is vs. Oregon, he went the fuck off.

I have followed UCLA a lot the past year, he is solid.

Collison is coming back and their #1 recruit is also a PG, Gatorade POTY.

yes fiveeight. I am a huge reader of anything on the WoW sight and also I really like Hollinger's analysis.

Also I've seen Love play multiple times and it seems like the only thing that held him back was his conditioning and rope beard.

If he were a black person instead of a white wanna-be black person he'd be the #2 or #3 pick in the draft.

Love, Rose, and Beasley are head and shoulders above the rest of this draft class.

Mayo is an X factor and COULD end up in this class. I wouldn't pass on him with the #4 pick but at the same time I don't see him becoming anything more than a scorer with a lot of deficiencies.

I like the Arenas comparison/ceiling for Mayo in that article. But if he goes to a bad team he'll probably never develop like he could if he was playing with a decent roster.

Mayo has way more off the ball scoring potential than Arenas because of his size.

Arenas dwarves Mayo in terms of ball handling.

Mayo has the body and desire to become a two way player. I think he's way too talented to let him slip below the first four picks but I wouldn't bet much on him becoming a truly great player.

He's a guaranteed player though, and thats more than you can say for anyone that isn't named Beasley or Dorsey in this draft.

Love has lost 20 pounds and has a full beard now, so he's pretty much the complete package, lol.

I saw his workout with the Grizzlies. Hit 8 NBA 3's in a row during some speed drill

The Bobcats are rumored to be trying to get a second first-round pick in order to acquire Georgetown big man Roy Hibbert late in Round 1 on Thursday.

A source with another team said the Cats are looking for a pick around No. 20, that they would like to use on Hibbert. No guarantees that he's still available that late, and this could also signal that the Bobcats are ready to give up on Sean May.
