Whatchu think?

Can buy new 4 door automatic for 11 grand. We're not looking for anything special, just a point A to B car that will last at least 6 years.

get a 5 speed instead of the auto

if you know how to drive it, it is one less thing to break

I am quite fond of Korean compacts and subcompacts as far as looks go, if compared with their Japanese counterparts. If you have a bit more, I would say go for the Elantra. Also, have you looked at the Kia Rio?

But either way, get the manual transmission.

The closest I would ever come to a korean car is the Hyundai... Personally, I like the sonata if you want more "luxury" than the "sportier" mazda 6. However, Kia's are like Daewoos, imo.. Why would you want to get one?

I rented a 2008 Hyundai Elantra about a month ago on a business trip.

Nice little car. Didnt have much power, but the interior was really nice and there was lots of room inside.

I wouldnt hesitate to get one.

Is there anything else I should also be considering? This is the most affordable that I've found, thats for sure.

A mazda 3 perhaps? Hell, buy one that's slightly used ( prior year model). A completely loaded '05 Mazda 3 is goin for $14,000. I'm sure you can find one with low miles for cheap.

Maybe see if you can find a low mileage used Honda Fit? They get great mileage and I heard they're a ball to drive.
