part of me wants to laugh at the stupidity. the rest of me is sorry for the kids having such fuck ups for parents. I would think that if your child's life was on the line you would do EVERYTHING possible to save him/her 6/19/2008 4:01:40 PM |

Oregon (or all states for that matter) should implement a law that gives power of attorney and legal guardianship to the doctors once a minor whose parents are members of the Followers of Christ church enters the hospital 6/19/2008 4:36:08 PM |

the child himself had the right to refuse treatment, even if his parents wanted otherwise

They absolutely should not. In the cases of very young children I think you can make a strong and compelling case for negligent homicide if they are mentally incapable of making an informed decision and their legal guardian allows them to die, but if he is legally allowed to make decisions about refusing treatment then so be it.
People are entitled to their religious beliefs, no matter how stupid they may be. It's constitutionally protected for a reason.
People who believe in faith healing and the power of prayer are not different from the indians who believed the power of the ghost dance would deflect bullets, the results are exactly the same as well.6/19/2008 6:13:43 PM |
