As a huge huge fan of the punisher from 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Punisher_(2004_film) that has John Travolta, I'm a little disappointed to see the new one coming out this year not even acknowledge it.

Quote :
"Punisher: War Zone[3] is an upcoming action film based on the comic book vigilante and anti-hero The Punisher, a fictional character whose adventures are published by Marvel Comics. The film is not a sequel, and has no relation to, 2004's The Punisher, directed by Jonathan Hensleigh."

this guy is the punisher?

not sure if i buy it or not. I wish they would have tied them together some how.

The last guy to play The Punisher was terrible. Dolph freakin' Lundgren did a better job, that's just sad. The Punisher should be brutal, twisted, borderline insane, not some emo dude that isn't sure of himself (see 2004 Punisher).

What's up with the unrelated comic book movies about the same characters that just happen to come out within a few years of each other? First the Hulk, now this (unless the Hulk movies were related - I could be wrong in my belief that they aren't)

^ At least this new Hulk didn't rehash everything from the other movie, which is atypical of non-sequel movies about the same superhero.

I could've sworn I saw the 2004 film, but can't remember a damn thing about it...

^ yeah and he kicked ass in Rome so I think he'll make a good Punisher. With that said I thought Dolph sucked and that whole movie sucked. I liked Thomas Jane as Punisher and thought the last one was pretty good. But they're bringing in new directors and everything to revamp it because I guess Marvel wasn't convinced. Either way I will be seeing this.

That's because those ones weren't fully made by Marvel (and consequently were lacking in quality). Marvel is remaking the movies themselves. I think Marvel wants to set a baseline of actors and supporting actors for their Avengers film. I'm pretty sure that the Punisher has never been in the Avengers, but they will probably try and cram a good bit of Marvel superheroes in there anyway.

I am intrigued by the cast listing for this movie. Jigsaw is enough to get me interested, but seeing Nicky Cavella's and Cristu Bulat's names make me think that this movie could have the potential to be really twisted. These two appeared in the MAX books, and some of the storylines revolving around them are really demented. Nicky Cavella finds where Frank's family is buried, and he digs them up so he can piss on their corpses. Frank doesn't take very kindly to that. And Cristu Bulat ran a sex slavery ring until Frank tortured him to death by stringing up his entrails from a tree while he was still alive.

I really hope that these don't just wind up being auxiliary characters. The MAX stories are hands-down the best incarnations of the Punisher ever because the "rules" go right out the window.

He's going to be Captain America! But really I doubt there will be much of a tie in. I'm don't know all the story lines, but I don't think The Punisher has ever had very much to do with The Avengers.

^^^^ man I loved the "What If..." comics. I have just about all of them, though some are much better than others. Some of the better ones I remember are What if Spiderman killed the burglar? (which he kinda did in the first movie), What if the Punisher killed Spiderman? What if the Kingpin killed Daredevil? They had several with the Punisher killing Marvel Superheroes because he thought they were bad.

I fucking hated Barracuda.

York: "He's the baddest man to ever walk this earth. But you? You're just a joke."

I couldn't have been any happier when Frank killed him.

It's a teaser trailer, it's not meant to give you a lot to go on. And it really didn't give you any idea of the story. Typical teaser trailer to me

or, he looks like he is wearing a shit ton of body armor.

I think the first punisher might have ended in a way where there was no clear sequel direction. So they remade it. eh

The Punisher's suit, at least in the traditional comics, always went up his neck. In the teaser looks like they went a little overboard on the neck armor though, especially in the front. Could be an inch or two shorter and would have looked much better.

I really wish Marvel was making this movie in house (Iron Man and new Hulk), or someone had bought up the rights away from Lions Gates. Oh well. Looks semi-eh, but I still have a little hope.

when i saw him spinning from the chandelier, i thought it looked pretty bad

then came the line "Sometimes, i wish i could get my hands on God"

i'm washing my hands of this

The whole "I wish I could get my hands on God" is straight out of one of the recent MAX books. Still, it doesn't exactly transfer well onto the big screen.

thats what they did with the Dolph Punisher (which i like because it is still a bad ass action movie), i don't think this one will fall into quite the same trap, at least they are having an actual big time Punisher villain be the main bad guy,
