Anyone have one?

Is it worth it? I spend most of my time either in my car, at the office or around campus so I'd like to get a portable XM radio player. Is this effective in the car? It has a built in FM transmitter, but I'm always skeptical of that since I live in a pretty mountainous area (in other words FM frequencies come and go all the time).

I know this could go in Tech Talk but more people read Chit Chat that might have an opinion

i don't know, i bought one for my bf at the time, it was hella expensive, but he seemed to like it.

It's 249.99 after a $50 rebate. I'll get tons of use out of it so the price doesn't bother me.

I just need to know it's reliability. The reviews seem to be good but most of them are done around NYC where they have all of the ground transmitters (or transponders or whatever).. I'm worried they might not have as many out here.

The only reason I got Sirius was for Howard, but i listen to a lot of the music stations in the afternoons. I haven't listened to regular radio in over 2 years

It doesn't really matter which service you buy now. The FCC approved the XM/Sirius merger like 5 days ago..

I believe they are keeping the XM name...

^^ yeah, but you will have to buy new equipment to be able to pick up both. Until then, you still need sirius receiver to listen to sirius, and xm to listen to xm

You sure? On XM's site it has merger news and it says that all XM receivers will handle all stations when the merger finally actually goes through... eh, I want XM because they have better college sports and baseball packages anyway...

Though I'd kill to have Stern again...

They have been talking about it on Stern for the past year or so. From my understanding, the current radios can't be programmed to receive signals from each others' satellites. But I might be wrong. I know that I use an XM antenna to pick up my Sirius signal, so the technology can't be that different.

The cool shit is going to be the A La Carte offerings you can get on the new radios. They will have 50 and 100 channel offerings where you can just pick the channels you want and get rid of the rest. The 50 channel one is only like $7 a month.

I bout the inno2... I haven't installed it at my car but I was walking around campus (which isn't in a metro area by any stretch) and in every building I got good reception because there were terrestial repeaters nearby I guess...

Works great at home indoors too... It's actually surprisingly more reliable than I thought it would be considering the landscape out here...
