I don't see what asteroids and "shit" in the earth have to do with gravity (the fact that god gave us the ability to keep ourselves unwittingly attached to earth)

What is significant to you?

Some relevant information would not only be the mass of the asteroid, but the shape, matter, speed, angle of impact, etc.

considering the density gradient of the earth, it'd have to be pretty fucking big

^the earth's gravity comes from its mass and rotation. So you'd need a big asteroid that would destroy a lot of that mass and disturb its rotation. For that to happen would result in a huge explosion that would kill everyone on the planet. So you wouldn't be around to "enjoy" the change in gravity.

How do you define "significant"

A large enough impact usually just fuses the masses together.

Earth was actually 80% of the size that it is now when it was impacted by a Mars size object that actually added mass. Some of the remaining ejecta went on to form the moon. At least thats one theory on where the moon came from.

Why don't you just lose some weight instead of hoping that asteroids will do it for you?

i'm 130 and 5'10, i don't think losing weight is in my best interest.

maybe the collision is inelastic and i gain some weight

[Edited on June 25, 2008 at 4:47 PM. Reason : EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT?]
