In Maryland.
My dad's name is also on the title. I was told my the MVA that it's like $60 to remove his name.
I've never done any of this kind of thing before (first car). Considering that I already ponied up the $texas last year to move the goddamn title from NC to MD, does this seem accurate? Or did the MVA rep misunderstand my question...
(I already checked MVA website, which gives an explanation very much counter to what I heard on the phone, described above) 6/25/2008 3:52:59 PM |

okay so you have a title in your name and his name and you're trying to get it removed? is that accurate because you aren't clear as to who all's name is on the title.
if his name is on the title with your name, he should just sign it over to you. whatever fees that they may be charging are probably a tax, and yes they can charge them but every state is different. 6/25/2008 3:58:50 PM |

seems as if you want the title in your name just transfer the title to you, and a new title will be issued in your own name and you pay like $72 or close to that, might be a little more
but its just like if you sold the car, everyname on the title must sign it in front of a notary and then the DMV will issue the new owner a new title in their name 6/25/2008 3:58:52 PM |

either way they have to make you a new title so you got to pay whatever fee they charge up there 6/25/2008 4:20:20 PM |

Yeah both our names are on it. I guess there's no point to having his name removed until we go to sell it later on.
I think the thing that truly angers me is the disgusting incompetence the MVA has shown me. Nothing new...
Thanks all. 6/25/2008 4:46:08 PM |

$60 is just to issue a new title... that's as cheap as it's going to get
If it were anybody but a father/mother on there I'd get it off ASAP..but since it's your dad i wouldn't worry about it until you're ready to sell 6/25/2008 7:24:15 PM |

Just have him will it to you, thats what I am doing with my truck. To transfer its like 3% of value. 6/26/2008 2:30:48 PM |

he can't "will" it to him. he could leave it to him in a will, but then he wouldn't get his father's interest until he dies and it's a pain to do after he dies. 6/26/2008 3:02:52 PM |

i believe we've already established that the price is $60 to have it done, not 3%6/26/2008 3:16:30 PM |
