If you're Aubrey de Grey, then yes, you probably believe that.
But it hasn't been done quite yet.

it's not really a "theory"
just like "going to mars" isn't a theory
it's a destination
just takes time, innovation, and hard work

not my book...besides..."curing death"? that doesn't even make sense because contrary to what you say, death is not a disease

Otherwise, this has the potential to become an interesting topic, but you're going to have to do more than toss out a trite phrase to kick it off.6/25/2008 7:39:19 PM |

I don't buy it.
It's not that we couldn't theoretically get to the point where death from "natural causes" is avoidable.
It's just that people are pretty much always going to kill each other. Which is to say that, even if you live an extraordinarily long time, someone is eventually going to come along and shoot/disintegrate/evaporate your ass. Given the vague nature of "an extraordinarily long time" and the basic statistics involved, that's pretty much a given.
You can cure a lot about mankind, but you can't cure how much we suck -- with the possible exception that you are willing to suck just as much of the rest of us and exterminate the bad apples.
And even that's just a possible exception. 6/26/2008 6:07:28 AM |
