ok, so i have a mazda3, 2006. i was driving down 40 today with the AC on, then all of a sudden I notice that its not cold anymore. I turn it off, then turn it on, and it makes a funky noise.
wait till i get home, then try it when im idling in the driveway..it cut the car off. Turned the car back on, tried again, made a funky noise...also, i could hear like metal clinking or somehting... is my compressor dead? is it maybe the belt?
anyone wanna make some money to fix it? 6/27/2008 3:32:45 PM |

either the belt broke (cross your fingers this is the case)
or the clutch connected to your compressor pulley could have broken - could be expensive to fix 6/27/2008 6:33:02 PM |

thats wierd, an 06 should not have this problem.
is it out of warranty due to mileage?
im guessing that is the case since its like 2 years old. hell, write a note to mazda corp. and explain the deal.
i did that with canon and got my camera replaced for free after it was out of warranty.. different type of product, but it wont hurt if you have some time. or go talk to the GM of mazda.
its a 2 year old car, it doesnt matter the brand, 2 years old should not mess up that bad. 7/1/2008 1:31:46 PM |

^^ Great idea. It definitely couldn't hurt at all. Be all nice and tell them that you really like Mazda and everything else about your car, you're a loyal customer, recommended them to others, yada, yada, yada. And see what they tell you.
If that doesn't get you anywhere, you can try the hardball approach about calling the trouble shooter, bad mouthing them to friends & family, etc.. 7/1/2008 4:17:33 PM |

hotcurlz24's POS focus (2002 >80k) had this exact same thing happen last summer.
The exxon next to the falls of the neuse liquor store replaced the ac compressor pretty cheap. I bought one at Jackson's auto salvage on Poole Rd and took it up there and they put it on same day.] 7/3/2008 12:07:17 PM |

after all, we do have fucking 4 mazdas currently in my family..we are pretty loyal..02-04-06-08..lol.
if i can get this fixed for relatively cheap..then i wont even bother with mazda..
by the way..the car is out of warranty because my milage is 74000...i have to drive 100 miles a day, on the highway..it SUCKS.
and you are RIGHT..this shit doesnt happen to a fuckin new car..i bought a new car so i wouldnt have to worry about stuff like this. 7/8/2008 11:05:10 PM |

yep..most days..
and THIS IS THE GREAT REPLY I GOT FROM my letter to mazda corp..
Quote : | " Hello Remy:
Thanks for contacting Mazda.
I regretted to read about the air conditioner compressor on your MAZDA3 needing to be replaced. Since your vehicle is out of the basic warranty any repairs to the vehicle would be the customer’s responsibility. However, if you would like to see about after warranty assistance from Mazda, I have listed the proper procedure to follow below.
First you would need to have your vehicle diagnosed by an authorized Mazda dealership. Once this is done you would want to speak with the Service Manager discuss any possible after warranty assistance. If needed, the Service Manager can contact their local Mazda District Customer Service Manager (DCSM) to review your case. Once the DCSM reviews your case he/she will make one of three decisions; full assistance, partial assistance, or no assistance.
Please keep in mind that once the DCSM makes a decision it is final and can not be overturned by this office. Also, the DCSM does not have a direct customer contact number or e-mail and is only accessible through the Service Manager.
Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.
Regards,

so whats the mileage warrany on your car? 60K??
i still find a 2 year old car kind of odd, doesnt matter the mileage. heck you only use the compressor during like 3-4 months a year if that.
so perhaps you should go talk to the district manager.
on a similar note, i took my grandmas 04 lexus RX in for a check engine light. its only got 39K miles. even the tech who checked and cleared the lights said that its unusual for a car with that many miles to have the codes it had. anyways, the warranty expires in 2 months, and the service manager said that since they have record of the problems BEFORE the warranty expires, that if i come in after with the same problem, lexus is usually good about dealing with it even though warranty has expired.
you'd think its a trap, once the warranty is out, all this crap starts happening. it happens more than often, thats why i like to grill a dealership whenever possible.
i really hope you can get something out of mazda with this. this just doesnt seem right. yeah you're out of warranty with miles, but its not like you have 200,000 miles on the car. and if you did, you should still get some sort of plaque for it. 7/9/2008 7:59:52 PM |

i dont know, i mean, im a high mileage guy myself. i think anything less than 100,000 is still a virgin. specially less than like 80K miles.
yeah, its kind of high for 2 years of driving, but mazda is a fairly reputable manuf.
at least in my eyes. some may disagree and say that 74K miles is a lot in 2 years. yeah... but still. 7/9/2008 8:16:09 PM |

Since this is a mazda related question...
1993 mazda mx3.
The AC Compressor went out. SS Mazda wants over $500 for just the compressor, about $730 for everything.

yeah, same price only on a car 10 years older
Any other suggestions on AC shops? I want to install this bitch myself and have an AC shop do the rest... (charge, dye, etc...)

wow. Didn't mean to bring the drama.... The car is already been converted to 134a. The only issues would be that the condensor is in piss poor shape, but still works. Between that and the old ass evaporator core/heater core, I don't know if I want to actually go thru with this. Best quote I got was like ~$600 to get the compressor done (includes 12 month warranty).
Thanks optmusprimer for the four brothers auto air on gresham lake rd in raleigh suggestion. I'll give them a call.
I've never done any AC work evar, so I don't know exactly how to go about "charging" the system. Also, what about the oil and dye? I have to add those into the system too right? Is the compressor a simple bolt on thing? I've tried googling already for help, but there's no where the info on an mx3 as there is on my car, so this completely sucks.
