Walmart sandals last about 4 months. Rainbows last about 2-3 years.

Buy Rainbows.

I've just recently had to purchase my second pair after the first pair wore out from 5 years of use. I wear them most all day on Saturday and Sunday during the summer, quite a bit during the week, I've shot the rock in them from time to time, etc. It isn't like they are $150 sandals that everyone gets to be trendy. They're good sandals.

Still prefer Reefs (more styles and more comfortable in my opinion). I have about 5 or 6 pairs of Reefs right now. Although I just got a pair of Oneils on sale and am enjoying them quite nicely.

my rainbows are.. 6 years old? probably about time for some more.

but i had a suitemate once who flaunt his cheaper ones that 'looked just like them.' i think he had them break twice in a year.

Ye. Ive had a basic pair of reef sandals (black bottoms, black thread(?) thong style) for about 3-4 years and theyre holding up. I wear them probably 4 days a week. I have a backup pair that I bought last year but havent really needed to use them.

^^^ what he said

These blanket fashion assumptions are stupid. I grew up wearing rainbows, sperry's, and croakies. Long before I knew what a frat was.

Rainbows are the shit. I bought a pair two months ago and there has only been one day since then that I haven't worn them.

I messed up and bought the skinny strap ones and they are slick on the top. They suck, but I would buy a new pair if I ever felt like it.

Every single person has bought and worn something because of a fad. It has nothing to do with frats, a fad is a fad. And everyone at some point has HAD to have something because of a fad.

I'm not necessarily implying that people did this with Rainbows and Sperrys... I'm saying in general. There is SOMETHING that EVERYONE bought because of a fad, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'll totally admit it. I bought my rainbows mainly because they looked cool and almost everyone I saw wearing them was cool as well.

That's how it works. You see everyone else with them, you decide to try them out, you like them, you buy them, you wear them. Nothing wrong with it. Just don't blame it on certain groups like its a bad thing! (not directed and you^)

I bought my first pair about 4 1/2 yrs ago and loved them. They're still going strong but they don't have a lot of padding so 2 yrs ago I got another pair with thicker soles that are perfect for all the walking that comes with living in NYC.

I've noticed they're becoming a lot more popular here in the northeast. Last summer Rainbow opened a store in Nolita so that probably helped a lot. But I'm starting to see them a lot more often.

I grew up in Wilmington where that's all anyone ever wore. It wasn't a peer pressure thing so much as they were really good, comfortable sandals. I had a pair I wore for almost four years before I had to get new ones. I'm on my third pair ever and I started buying them when I was fourteen or fifteen.

Fad or not, they're still quality, sensible sandals.
