Today is the first meeting of our "Green Team" at work.
What are some suggestions you would have for greening up a business? I myself am going to push a 4 day work week...even though I know that won't happen. 7/1/2008 8:41:08 AM |

Man...I worked at a bar that "went green." Started off being a pain in the ass...but I eventually got use to it.
Every product we used was either biodegradable or could be used over and over again. Got all of those special lightbulbs. Went "paperless" except for our food and drink menus (sent all the reports via email, etc.). Recycled everything. 7/1/2008 8:44:26 AM |

get rid of styrofoam cups for coffee and everyone just use a coffee mug if they aren't already

Tell everyone to hold their breath for an hour per day to reduce their carbon footprint. Hope the environmentalists die in the process. 7/1/2008 8:45:38 AM |

PROPERLY TINTED WELL INSULATED windows.. Cheap dark windows do not help much and cause lighting problems and can make it feel dark all day inside
Fans?? why fans??? If the HVAC is worth 2 shits fans are just wasted energy.
Natural flooring such as cork is cool
Heat recovery from anything possible is a good idea.
Indoor plants are a good idea to boost air quaility
an indoor air quality monitoring system to possibly reduce outdoor air intake in polluted areas.
all kinds of fun stuff.7/1/2008 8:50:37 AM |

- 4 day work week - Motion sensor lights (where they'd make sense) - Better insulation - Use reusable coffee mugs instead of disposable (same for water cups) - efficient lighting - recycle paper (and cans and bottles) - use typewriters instead of computers to save energy 7/1/2008 12:27:41 PM |

I just started a 4 day work week this week.(Friday is a holiday, so I get Thursday off as well!!) So far its been pretty good. I don't have a good feel for the traffic flow yet, because I feel like it is an "off week" with a lot of people being on vacations and such.
There is rumor that it may be manditory county wide at some point. 7/1/2008 12:34:12 PM |

no problem. I hope they are doing well. I no longer work in that area, but I've always enjoyed their food. Good food quality too, most of their stuff is made from scratch (even their desserts) And they seemed to be nice people (if it is the same people that were there a year ago) 7/1/2008 12:38:09 PM |

Sometimes I feel like the Green Revolution is the most hypocritical policy, reducing energy efficiency to mere competitive advantage, rather than something that is morally right and should have been done for years.
But congrats on finding a progressive company! 7/1/2008 12:42:16 PM |

Only 9 of us work there but we produce more trash than other offices on our floor with 30-40 employess
One guy tried to get us to start recycling a few months ago and one of the partners was like "What are you, some kind of faggot ? Trash is Trash"

My favorite was the fettuccini alfredo. It was really good. Definitely not low fat though. I always forget about that place because it seems to be a little bit off the beaten path. 7/1/2008 12:43:42 PM |

If you go for the CFL's, you need to press for responsible and proper disposal of the bulbs. That's the bigger enemy.
Don't forget recycling for all paper, magazines, phonebooks, plastics, and glass. Lights off in the bathroom unless you're in there. 7/1/2008 12:45:02 PM |

yeah i'm not sure how effective a 4 day work week is either. On my days off, I'm usually out running errands, so I'm still polluting the environment. 7/1/2008 12:45:55 PM |
