Disney had some kick ass old school movies, way better than their recent movies. The artwork and scenery used to be so amazing. I just watched bambi and i'd forgotten how well the old backgrounds (oil paintings?) worked along with the classical soundtracks.

Bambi was probably the first movie i saw where anyone died. Was pretty scary and traumatic at the time, i look back and realize all the other environmental shit going on. This was pretty baller for the 40s. good thing we listened and didn't hunt all the tigers and shit] 7/4/2008 11:08:28 PM |

I think artistically, Sleeping Beauty was their best film.

sleeping beauty is my FAVORITE. i like when the little fairy things have a fight and turn things blue and pink.
i also had to fast forward through the dragon part when i was little. it was a little too much for me to handle. 7/4/2008 11:16:58 PM |

What would be their best recent movie (2-d)?
The Lion King? I liked Hercules and Emperor's New Groove, but no one else seemed to. 7/4/2008 11:17:30 PM |

I've seen the lion king 42 times.
I would watch it at least once a week when i was in like 2nd or 3rd grade. Had the whole movie memorized.
Alice and wonderland was a pretty incredible movie. I haven't seen fantasia and the other one like that (forget what its called). Is fantasia the one about russia or something? i could be getting the names of them mixed up.
i haven't seen sleeping beauty since i was very young. 7/4/2008 11:23:40 PM |

no fantasia isn't about russia.

okay question:
Can anyone help me find out who did the scores for Bambi, not like the songs but some animation led classical things for example when the forest is on fire or when they're running from the hunter theres some choral music in the background that's pretty kick ass.
i checked IMBD and Wikipedia but i wasn't really sure what to look for, and i only found some soundtracks for the songs with words.] 7/4/2008 11:53:05 PM |

okay this song is the best one in the movie but listen to how sick the background choral stuff is without the lead vocals. 7/5/2008 12:14:11 AM |

Pixar and Studio Ghibli are the only studios who are carrying on Disney's old school dedication to quality and imagination.
Maybe the reverse takeover of Disney by Pixar might bring Disney back in a few years, but it looks like Disney still has some terrible stuff coming down the pipeline.

this is a better example of the type of stuff i'm trying to find. its really hard for me to get into classical music for just the sake of classical music, much more accessible when i know its linked to some other artform or some type of expression.
