Yea, this is pretty stupid. This doesn't belong in the soap box.

They're doing great actually; Barack Hussein-Obama's uncle just liberated them from someplace.

Quote :
"Chuck Jones considers himself one of the good guys.

As a candidate for Athens-Clarke County Commission District 9 this fall, the 26-year-old promises to push local government decision-making out of the back room and into the sunlight. As a self-professed member of the "conservative Christian" movement, Chuck hopes to restore and defend the "basic values of faith, family and friendship" in this community.

And if you don't believe him, then you might want to call Dave, Juliet and the twins for a reference. I'm sure they'll back up his every claim.

Of course, you need to find them first.

Chuck faces a trio of opponents in District 9 this fall. But the fresh-off-the-vine University of Georgia law school grad continues to make waves in a race he missed. Chuck initially targeted District 5 Commissioner David Lynn, but couldn't move into the district in time to qualify. Too bad. It might have been fun to watch.

So I guess we're left with the Nastiest Race Never Run.

Despite that, Chuck still loves taking Lynn to task - often in an awkward, rude and downright mean manner. His attacks center on Lynn's support of a temporary ban on new fraternity and sorority houses in Athens. He's taken his fight to commission meetings, even going so far as to have Lynn demand an apology from him after a meeting earlier this month. On political Web sites, Chuck called Lynn, along with Mayor Heidi Davison, "corrupt" and "criminal" for supporting the moratorium. On his own campaign site, Chuck brands the pair "unprincipled government officials".

But this is the point where I get that pot-meets-kettle feeling.

Yes, while the "Boy Who Would Be Commissioner" needs to work on his interpersonal skills, he also might want to watch who he's calling unprincipled. Especially when he considers that tact part of his arsenal.

His next move, well, I'm afraid it's more Carl Reiner than Karl Rove.

Here's how Chuck explains it: Dave and Juliet Ryan, parents of twins and old friends of Chuck's from his N.C. State undergrad days, expressed some interest in moving into Athens' Cobbham neighborhood from their home in Raleigh, N.C.

They started e-mailing the neighborhood's listserv coaxing opinions and information from residents. They said Chuck would check out the neighborhood for his friends.

But as the exchanges continued, something wasn't right about the Ryans. Sparked by these neighborhood suspicions, a bit of sleuthing showed the e-mails were generated from Athens, not Raleigh.

Now, ever tell one of those lies? Not just a white lie, mind you, but a tale so tall it necessitates a Tolstoy-like plot arc as cover, should it be discovered. That's where Chuck found himself here.

When confronted with the neighborhood findings, Chuck suddenly remembered he helped the family set up the hotmail.com account. The confusion came when he accidentally sent the e-mails from the Ryans' account. That or they sent them from his house. He couldn't remember which one.

As I'm sure you can guess by now, Chuck finally admitted to concocting the Raleigh, N.C., family.

No Dave. No Juliet. No twins.

Chuck told this newspaper he created his imaginary friends as a "pseudonym" for a shy college friend looking for a job in Athens. But after being told the name in confidence, strangely enough, our reporter cannot find him anywhere in North Carolina.

Good grief. With imaginary friends like these, who needs enemies?

A simple browse of Chuck's campaign Web site shows his belief in strong community values. Just look at what the Winchester, Va., native writes: "I believe that the majority of Athens citizens are good, churchgoing folks who hold firm to the basic values of faith, family and friendship. As your Commissioner, I will uphold the values important to this community. I will work hard to ensure that the Commission never forgets the people of faith and the values they hold dear. ..."

Sounds great. But I'm guessing honesty and integrity fall into at least one, if not all of these categories. Too bad this enfant terrible of the campaign trail has struggled with both thus far.

Listen, I think we all enjoy a little creative campaigning at the local level. And poking the folks in power is always fun. Face it, Chuck has a bit of a point. This government often reacts outside the best interest of all, in favor of a vocal minority. But Chuck derails his College Republican revolution by playing not just dirty, but downright dumb.

See, once you dip into imaginary friends, then you've got some serious issues for which to answer. And it doesn't look like Dave, Juliet and the twins are going to be any help here."

the bad news is that it's still way too retarded for me not to lock it.
