howdy, my dell inspiron laptop seems to have an issue with the power input jack being loose or something....

is this a diy fix or if not, how much might i expect to pay to have it done locally?

the problem may or may not be a simple fix. What has happened is the place the power cord plugs into your lappy has come loose. Someone may be able to solder it back down but if not you might be buying a new mobo...

yeah usually it's a quick fix, i could take a look at it for you

almost always you can resolder the jack back on

are you sure the power input jack is loose? Is the laptop getting power or does the system come up saying it can't detect if the power supply is correct during boot? Inspiron's are well known to have crappy power bricks that die very easily.

Usually the plug comes unsoldered. I wouldn't call it an easy fix, the entire laptop usually has to be disassembled.

Definitely check the cord with a meter first.

If you want to drop it by I'll take a crack at it for $60. I've fixed 3 in the past. I'll try not to brick it, but no promises.

I don't know of any store that will fix it.

I think this is an issue with all Dell Inspirons. Mine a Dell Inspiron 6000 does the same thing. Haven't gotten it fixed, but sometimes jimmying the cord around will make it work. lol

it's usually not too hard to disassemble a laptop if you know what you're doing

had this issue - $35 paid someone to provide and install the new jack
worked great

dell's are really bad for this, so yea - it can be fixed cheap.
