I was just pointing out the stadium is already named after a corporation. Which isn't what you just said. Besides, I usually try to ignore your posts.

Well, it was the Wrigley family that bought the Cubs back in the day, you could say they named it after their family name.

Wrigley was baller back in the day. Anyone who's been to Catalina Island knows this.

No shit, but it's a name that was the same as the company they owned.

I meant that Mr. Wrigley was baller. Cubs used to have spring traing on Catalina back in the day. He built all kinds of shit there.

He bought Catalina Island back in the day. I don't know if the family still owns it though. That's baller. No way should they sell out and rename it.

My point is that the stadium was named after a corporation. And I am 100% right. Don't try to skew the direction of the discussion.

if the family name was Wrigley and they owned a company called American Candy Peanut Chocolate Fudge Swizzle Stick Candy Company of the US, then I guarantee they wouldnt have named the field "American Candy Peanut Chocolate Fudge Swizzle Stick Candy Company of the US Field"

ernie is right

the Chicago Tribune doesn't sell any naming rights to Wrigley Company, because it was named after the then-owner of the Cubs, William Wrigley, not a corporation like basically all other stadiums in sports today

this thread is about corporate naming rights for Wrigley Field, SINCE THEY DON'T CURRENTLY DO THAT

That posts makes zero fucking sense

of course, neither does this:

Quote :
"just sell it to the gum company and rename it Wrigley's Field"

Quote :
"the company name is Wrigley's

the field is named Wrigley

the field is not named after a company"

If you would have simply read my earlier post, you could have avoided looking like a retard:

You have no idea what you're talking about, just stop. It's OK to lose one every now and then, TreeTwista.

how much does Wrigley Company pay the Tribune for the naming rights since its a corporate sponsorship? I could've sworn it was $0.00...

did you know William Wrigley used to own the Cubs and he renamed the field after himself? Apparently you didn't

the Chicago Tribune doesn't sell any naming rights to Wrigley Company, because it was named after the then-owner of the Cubs, William Wrigley, not a corporation like basically all other stadiums in sports today

but please, hold on to my mistake of saying Wrigley vs. Wrigley's even though "Wrigley's" is on all their packaging...thats your small victory in this thread, cherish it since sd2nc clearly knows whats really up

Point out where I said that Wrigley pays the Tribune Co. for naming rights.

Oh, you can't? Because I never said that. That isn't my point.

My point was that the stadium was originally named after a corporation. I was right about that, you argued that I was wrong, realized that I wasn't, and changed the argument to corporate naming rights.

And yes, I realize that the original post was about corporate naming rights. But my first post wasn't and you argued with me over that, not over naming rights.

Again you miss the point, you fucking mongoloid. You referred to the stadium as Wrigley's Field. Which it isn't. You don't even know the name of the damn stadium and you're still arguing.

no surprise that point flew over your head...if WRIGLEY FIELD was named after the company as opposed to former owner William Wrigley, it would THEN be called WRIGLEY'S FIELD, since all Wrigley products are called "Wrigley's _______"...please find me a Wrigley product that says Wrigley on it cause all the ones I've ever seen say "Wrigley's"

Ernie, that other Wrigley Field was in LA, the Angels played there for one season-their first year. The Dodgers almost ended up playing there after their move but played in the Coliseum. That old B&W "Home Run Derby" was filmed at the LA Wrigley Field. The third Wrigley Field was and still is on Catalina Island.

Did you see the link I posted above. The one the About Us page of the Wrigley Company's website? Because if you clicked on that, you could clearly see that the name of the company is not and has never been Wrigley's.

as I stated, it was named after the owner, but it wasnt an accident that his company was named the same thing... if he was dead and yeeeeeears later they named it after him then it could be to honor/remember him, but in this case it was clearly for advertising

in the meantime . . .
Quote :
"No other team has fans like you. Despite 100 years of post-season futility, you’ve headed to Wrigley Field game after game—filled with an almost rabid enthusiasm. And now that Chicago’s having their best season in years, what do the owners do? They try and sell the Wrigley Field name to the highest bidder. That’s no way to treat an institution—or the best fans in baseball. In fact, Jim Beam thinks it’s an outrage. And now it’s time to let the owners know.

We’re teaming up with other local fans to collect signatures protesting the sale. The more signatures we collect, the stronger our message to the team owners: Don’t sell the name. It’s wrong. It’s selfish. And we won’t stand for it."
