What Brand did was not as bad as what Boozer did.

The Clippers didn't offer Brand as much as the 76ers did, because of their owner. They were lowballing him and got what was coming.

Boozer just bailed on a team that wanted to reward him.

the Clippers would have sucked either way.. Maggette left too, and their are way too many good teams in the West. they would have struggled to make the playoffs next year even if he had stayed. and no one here would turn down that kind of cash.

the clippers are known for losing franchise players frequently.

plus it's the nba which is dying at a rapid rate...sketchy refs, sketchy/greedy players, david hitler stern running the league, etc, etc.

the clippers have been god awful for a while and i think any decent player who can go to a more competitive team would jump ship...you're always second to the lakers in LA anyway.

here is probably what happened. elton and baron are friends. they ran a con on the clippers to convince them to sign baron to a max deal which he would not have gotten from anybody else. once that deal was in place elton did what he probably was going to do all along and left for the east coast for the big dollar bucks. they both end up with very good contracts. if brand had really fucked baron over by leaving, baron would have made more of a fuss with the brand signing.

Let's see, he signed a new deal with Philly to be paid 80 over 5, that's 16M a year. So I guess technically he left 1M on the table, but he has the piece of mind knowing he's guarenteed that 16 a year for the additional 4 seasons after next season. With his unknown injury status, that is a much better deal than holding out for a 6-7% increase in income with no certainty about 09 and beyond whereas now he locks in the next additonal 4 years and undoubtedly his last big time contract. And if his injuries come back and hurt his production, he still gets paid.

he DID some great things and then tried to take total control of the NBA and has helped contribute to the slight decline in college basketball. i mean have you heard this guy talk? he's possibly the most arrogant person in sports. i could care less about collared shirts (you said collard shirts so i assume you are a racist), but he just gives the nba another sour taste that they don't need.
