I just got a pretty convincing scam email and thought I would give a heads up since some people may actually fall for it.

Quote :
"Our Valued Banking Client,

Bank of America is proud to announce about their new updated secure system. We updated our new SSL servers to give our customers a better, fast and secure online banking service.

*Important*

These additional information will be asked during your future login security so, please provide all these info completely and correctly otherwise due to security reasons we may have to close your account temporarily.

The link sends you here:
http://host68.hrwebservices.net/~texture/textures/images/confirm/bankofamerica/do.php?cmd=SignIn

Which is obviously not a Bank of America website, and none of the links actually go anywhere. I've got to give them kudos though, it looks just like a Bank of America site and it had me fooled for about 10 seconds. I'd think that if they were really trying though, they wouldn't include the line "Bank of America in no way involved with this email and the web site does not belong to us."

i dont click links in emails that are 'automated' or whatever. i just go to the web address on my own

good habit to get into.

if its that important, when you login you should be redirected to whatever needs to be updated

I got this same e-mail a while back. The dead giveaway was that I have never been a BOA customer.

I never EVER EVER EVER give out any personal info on the internet. Even if something sounds legit, I respond to the e-mail with "I do not give out personal information online. Please contact me via the phone number you have on file."

Aside from the fact that this is the second oldest trick in the book,

Quote :
"Bank of America in no way"

Quote :
"proud to announce about"

typos like this should instantly give it away as well.
