Back when I was taking night courses, my sister requested that I get get on the phone with her while I was walking from class to the car. It was her thinking that when I was on the phone, I was less of a target as a female because whoever wanted to mug me would think I'd just notify the person I was talking to before he was able to overcome me.

I didn't think it was too useful, seeing as how the dude can always come at ya from the back or the side without warning, but the fact that you were on the phone with someone at the point that you went out of contact would at least provide one useful detail (the exact time you were attacked).

Don't get out at night, and if I do, I'm certainly not on foot alone (now that I have my man), but does anyone else do this?

I used to work at Goodnight's and I wouldn't get out of there until about 2:30 - 3:00 am and I didn't have a car, so I carried a decoy wallet on me for the 2 mile hike home.

Funny as it might sound my dad had a similar idea back in the Navy when they'd make port in foreign countries - the sailors would go out, party (this was before they were locked in some "safe zone"), and stay out late. He and his buddy were chased down by some Arabs, so he took his wallet out of his pocket, drew out his Navy ID card, and tossed the rest over his shoulder.

Saved his life.

Being more aware of your surroundings so you can run is more important.

talkin on a phone is a bad idea to stay safe, it makes you look less aware and more vulnerable.

i fear nothing when i leave the house, but then again i carry my gun everywhere i go. paranoid, not really, just the way i roll. when you wear a gun as part of a job it becomes a normal oart of your routine. that and id hate to be in a situation where i needed it and didnt have it, seeing as how im supposed to intervene when feasible.

I know someone who worked at a prison who did - they sprayed the n00bs with it. It was hilarious. I doubt it helped them to get used to the experience though, but at least they knew what to expect the next time it happened.

i always talked to someone on the phone when i had night classes walking from class to car/wherever. i still do it if i'm at the library late at night or the security guard will stand outside the building and watch me walk to my car.

i'm not like a huge scaredy cat or something but i did get assaulted on state's campus in broad DAYLIGHT (like 11:30 am) and had to push one of those dumb blue light things. so yea, some people are crazy and its not really worth it. so i get paranoid at night and i'd rather not be chopped up into a million pieces in a greensboro parking deck. i can think of other ways i'd prefer to die, thanks.

also i a keychain flashlight and pepper spray. i don't think its for scared pussies.
