I heard about this the other week. They only allow for 28 sports and golf is trying to get back in. What do you think should be in the Olympics.
IMHO, Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, Golf, Tennis, Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Track & Field, Cycling, baseball, and maybe Cricket. I'm sure I missed a few, but there is no need for adding all of the extreme sports that they have been adding to both the summer and winter games.

There's a football world cup, I think there have been one or two, we sent a bunch of DII players and won. And who cares about Olympic golf? I'd rather watch the Ryder Cup.
And baseball/softball are no longer Olympic sports, which makes sense.

^I heard baseball is coming back to the Olympics, but I could be wrong. The Olympics is about international competition that the whole world can be a part of. Regional sports like Aussie Rules football, Galic Football, and American Football don't belong. I don't care too much about the Olympics, but if they are going to be played then international games like soccer, basketball, and golf belong. 7/19/2008 12:07:14 PM |

^I know they aren't going anywhere.
Anyway, here is a list of the 2008 games http://en.beijing2008.cn/sports/
I could live without BMX and Trampoline. They should be replaced with Rugby and Golf. 7/19/2008 12:17:07 PM |

What's the deal with limiting the sports? If it's a legitimate international sport with sufficient interest, why should it ever get bumped? 7/19/2008 8:52:59 PM |

^^I don't understand that either, but I read it in another article that they only allow 28 sports. There are more than that listed for China 2008 though. I would think golf would be popular with the host cities because they could make the local course nice and increase the greens fees after it hosted the Olympics. I heard Pinehurst #2 increased its prices after the 1999 US Open. 7/19/2008 9:25:25 PM |

doing this requires there to be a ridiculously good golf course in the host city... thats not always so easy. stadiums can be built, golf courses take time to properly grow. 7/20/2008 7:52:33 PM |

^I know what you mean, but I think if it would be added most host cities could have time to create a course. If you want the Olympics then make a nice golf course many years in advance. Sort of like how cities need to have good transportation before they can even be considered. 7/20/2008 8:53:18 PM |

I've never seen much of a need to include soccer in the Olympics. It already has its own international competition that is bigger than the Olympics. 7/21/2008 1:51:15 PM |

The Olympic soccer tournament is essentially a U-23 tournament, though, so it serves a purpose of its own. You can only have three players over the age of 23. 7/21/2008 2:00:43 PM |

^^I feel that way about a lot of sports. NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, PGA, FIFA World Cup, EPL, Serie A, etc. > Olympics 7/21/2008 3:08:49 PM |
