I plan on making it last for 2 weeks because my birthday will be during christmas break and i won't have school to hinder my drinking.
But seriously, it'll just be nice to not be committing a crime every time i have a beer. 7/20/2008 1:32:27 AM |

turning 21 is rather anticlimactic. the novelty wears off almost immediately and it's really no different than before, it's more of a wake up call if anything, at least for me anyways 7/20/2008 1:55:22 AM |

I'm sure it is. But I just look forward to the fact that I've made it to this milestone in my life without dying or ending up in jail. 7/20/2008 2:00:39 AM |

^^ it wasn't for me, i'm not a big drinker but my friends were always older so it meant I could finally go anywhere with them instead of sitting at home.

WHAT? Turning 21 is probably the best thing that ever happened to me. You're no longer concerned about bullshit laws. What time the cops are going to bust the party. Who is going to get you alcohol. Where can you get in.
You can go to casinos, bars, buy beer at the grocery store, drink at movies, drink at concerts, drive home after you sober up without worrying about blowing a .01, etc
I dropped out of school within 2 months of turning 21 to travel the country and party every night for a year straight. I lived in NYC for a month, split time between AC/Pennsylvania for weeks at a time. Trips to Key west, vegas, dallas, chicago. Spent a lot of time in chapel hill, wilmington, charleston, etc. And probably went out in Raleigh 100+ times.
I spent ~$10k on alcohol alone that year and would probably pay $10k to turn the clock back. Turning 21 is only anticlimatic if you don't know how to appreciate it.7/20/2008 4:54:19 AM |

You can do it a lot cheaper than 10k if you lack the bankroll.
Just hit the "circuit". There's a dollar night every night somewhere. You don't have to go out every night. Could easily go out 3-4 nights a week for $50-$70 if you're careful and still have a good time.
Also you can go to strip clubs for christ sake. Turning 21 is like becoming a real person.

Katmandu is not 18+ at any time unless it's a special event arranged beforehand so they can can get a door man and other security personnel.

What the hell is sad about it? Best year of my life. There is more to life than boring ass classes that move at the speed of snails because you are in there with a combination of stupid people and nerds who have to get the teacher off topic all the time with hypotheticals that have nothing to do with the material.
I would do it again. I'd saying go back to school was one of the poorer decisions of my life but it made my parents happy so whatever. 7/20/2008 1:48:20 PM |

^ I agree, just make sure you appreciate that you have the means to do it. I'm kind of hoping to take a lot of time off and travel the world but I won't be able to until I work for a good 8-10 years. Maybe do it between jobs or something. 7/20/2008 1:57:11 PM |
