honestly, i think ford's biggest problem is they assume every American wants a large, uninspiring, mediocre car............they don't make anything that is fun

turf. they don't want to admit that the U.S. division can't make (refit) a car that will sell.

they wanted to make their own car using U.S. bin parts.

Six new small vehicles. small. That does not mean the Mondeo, or the Falcon, or anything else that isn't a small car. We're stuck with the Fusion and the Taurus for now. (Though I honestly think the Fusion has potential, it's not a bad-looking car...just fix the QC issues and give us a hybrid version, a tdi version, a performance version...)

If we're lucky they'll give us the Euro Focus as one of the six, but considering they *just* brought out the new one over here and it seems to be selling despite the fact that it's fugly...not holding my breath. I'm guessing we'll get a couple of subcompacts, a mini-SUV/cute ute, probably a city car of some kind, maybe a small sporty coupe, and....?

I've read a few articles that mention plans for the mondeo to come over. Plans are already in the works for a reuniting of the focus in the next few years.

???

The "new" Focus here is just a rehashed version of the last generation. Europe has the "next generation" but for some reason Ford thinks we're unworthy. We don't have it..

I wasn't aware of that; guess I'm not really in the know about the compact scene. I figured that with the age of the older model, and the new body styles and whatnot, it was an actual generation change rather than a major freshening.

yeah I never really understood why all the car company's pretty much launch shit in Europe first.. we've been quoting a lot of stuff that is available in Europe right now that is due to hit the US in 2010-2011. If they were f'in smart they'd use the same suppliers as much as possible and save the money of building two sets of tools for everything

or at the very least save the money of DESIGNING two sets of tools--we've had to completely design tools that already fucking EXIST because GM wouldn't give us any information about the tools that are running in Europe. How fucking stupid is that?

I'm sure Ford is the same way though

Found On (the) Road Dead

There's lots of things I dont understand, and car companies not bringing their compact cars from europe to here is one of them

I guess part of it could be the whole UAW shit where they have to pay auto workers rediculous wages, and as a result have less money to spend on the vehicles themselves and have to produce shittier quality ones

or it could be that european governments have better qc requirements that the cars have to meet, and as a result they get better cars

I do know that it's comparable to the cellphone and electronics industry - consumers in europe generally have much higher standards than americans, and as a result their product offerings reflect that
