i don't know, i agree with (what i think) oprah was saying

her point about some random person living in a remote part of the world, who has lived their life as a model christian (i mean what christians claim to believe in how they're SUPPOSED to act), who has never heard of jesus christ...i agree with this...the religions out there who believe that there is only one very specific way to get to the final destination are kind of parochial in their views

that said, i'm a (fairly) devout christian, and believe wholeheartedly that, while christianity is the TRUTH, you can get to "heaven" without necessarily going to church every sunday

well, that's my point (the church point i was making was just an example...i don't go to church every week, and i don't personally think anyone's going to hell because of their attendance record )

i never take offense to the criticisms of christianity, but that's because i tend to agree with them

I think church is for people who get a sense of guidance in their faith via the rituals of singing and kneeling and praying and all. I feel like I need to take communion a few times a year, mostly the high holidays, but otherwise I don't really need weekly services to feel a connection with God. And I damn sure don't need to talk to saints or Mary like those kooky catholics.

These particular Christians are getting uptight because of verses like "Jesus said, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'" (John 14:6) It's a very common belief among Christians (well, southern baptists, anyway) that you need to proclaim Jesus to everybody, otherwise they'll end up in hell for not knowing about "the one way" to God.

Oprah's being reasonable, which makes much more sense.
