So this is for all the golfers out there. Just want some responses to see what you all think. I played in a golf tournament this past weekend with some friends. Capt choice, each person got 1 mulligan and one red tee. I've played in a quite a bit of golf touraments before and best I've ever seen with capt choice is 54. The winning team posted a 51. They had a 2, 6, 8, and 36 handicap playing on their team. I called bullshit all over this score and they swore that was the scored they came in with. Oh and not to mention they bogeyed the 1st, so that means they shot 22 under on 17 holes.

I'm a scratch golfer and with 4 scratch players, a 51 is damn hard with only a mulligan and one red tee per player. Anybody every seen that score or are you calling bullshit as well? What's the best anybody's ever seen playing in a capt choice tourny?

yeah

people always cheat in those things. best i've seen was a 50 or so i think, but that was w/adjustment for team average handicap. meaning they came in w/like a 57 or so.

the best is the in construction tournaments when a team of shitfaced drunk superintendents "wins" with a sub-60 score

With a 2, 6, and 8 handicap, 22 under is as low as you can conceivably go (14 birdies, 4 eagles on par 5's). With a bogey on the first hole, 13 birdies on 3's and 4's would be doable, but even if they eagled the four par 5's they'd still shoot 52.

So yeah, bullshit.

BTW, I was scratch in college and played on of these back then with 3 other scratch players. IIRC correctly we shot around 14 under w/ no mulligans, etc.

Yeah I usually don't play in these unless I know the majority of them....people cheat like hell. I was scratch my senior year of high school through my first 2 years of college and we would get a team and we could shoot like -15 but never anything like -22.

BTW what course was it? Were there drivable par 4s?

I played an easy course one time with 4 mulligans as a scratch golfer, with another scratch and 2 guys who couldn't hit it out of their shadows but could putt the lights out of the ball. We shot 19 under and thats the best I've ever seen. We could have shot about 21 if not for 2 bad holes, but 19 was damn good and you would be hard pressed to find 4 scratch golfers that could have done better. They didnt have 1 scratch in the group. They are full of shit.

Depends how easy the course is. If you have a few par 4s that are reachable from the red tees and all the par 5s are reachable then I would say this is plausible. I've played in one where we shot 55 and had a few holes where we should have made some putts. If you have solid golfers, all those tournys really come down to is putting.

I shot 61 playing my own ball one time on the course I mentioned. With 3 bogies. Nobody shoots in the -20's anywhere unless you have multiple mulligans per player, throws, red tees, and string. Even then, its tough unless you have a couple of scratch golfers playing out of their minds.

[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 6:02 PM. Reason : I mean I've seen 20 and 21 done with good golfers and 4 mulligans but I knew them, and course was ez]

Yeah I mean I guess it's possible, but you have to have a lot of luck on your side to post 51.

Someone asked about the course. Par 5's are pretty deep, par 4's are normal, a few drivable but only from the red tees. But the par 3's are not easy. 2 are over 185 yards. After bogeying the first, that means they shot 22 under on 17 holes, bullshit. But anyone know of any good golf tournaments around the Raleigh or Wilmington area coming up?

my friend really improved his short game with the class, but he's still a little bitch off the tee.

unfortunately he still beats me, so i'd say it's productive.

It can be good for your short irons and to help tweak your swing if there's some problems. Not a fix-all but it wasn't bad.
