http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=831054 We all knew he was pretty much going to install this at GT. Here is a tid bit from the article.
Quote : | " The triple option is a unique system that other teams will not see week in and week out making it much harder to prepare for.
• Johnson has run the offense almost his entire career and he will be able to make on-the-field adjustments twice as fast as the defensive coordinators he will be facing.
Finding the right quarterback will go a long way to help Johnson win at Georgia Tech.
• He has a vast array of splits, formations and motions to alter the appearance of the exact same plays.
• Because this is a system that is based upon creating as many third-and-short yardage situations as possible, they are in their comfort zone when it comes to executing critical short yardage and goal-line plays.
• Since you win championships with defense, no offense in the country has the ability to control the clock better than the triple option. The more you control the clock with your offense, the more your defense is resting on the bench.
• This is a true TEAM concept where every player on the offense understands that they must all work together to make it work. No running back will get all the carries and receivers must learn how to block. " |

Triple option huh? If last year is any indication, I guess I can look forward to them getting 12+ yards on each 1st down against us. 7/29/2008 1:17:17 PM |

Well we don't play GT this year. Hopefully by the time we have to play them again we'll have a much improved run defense. 7/29/2008 1:35:31 PM |

What kind of version of the triple option is he going to use? The wishbone, the veer, or the I formation? I'm guessing it will be the wishbone option with the flexbone formation since that is what he used at Georgia Southern and Navy. 7/29/2008 1:44:07 PM |

But if atleast two guys break through their O-line that triple option wont mean crap!! Do they have alot of starters returning back on the O-line? 7/29/2008 1:51:35 PM |

^ not really, it is an offense based on over penetration(that's what she said) upfield. So against teams like us(at least in the past) who have linemen that will just charge up field and not remember their assignments to contain, this works very well.

Kindof a bold statement, no way to really prove that in anyway.
Changes things for recruiting, probably good for us won't have to compete for similar recruits.7/29/2008 4:29:22 PM |

I think it will work against certain teams in the conference...only problem is those are teams they would likely beat regardless of them running the option or not 7/29/2008 4:36:24 PM |
