apparently tax free weekend is a "holiday"

whatever

here's a site: http://www.dor.state.nc.us/taxes/sales/salestax_holiday.html

here's a list of things you can buy tax free: http://www.dor.state.nc.us/taxes/sales/holiday_4-08.pdf

sale price of an item must be below a certain amount to get the sales tax break:

clothing <$100 per item

sport or recreational equipment <$50 per item

computers <$3500 per item

computer supplies <$250

school supplies <$100 per item

school instructional materials <$300 per item

"A "computer supply" is an item commonly used by a student in a course of study in which a computer is used. The items listed below are included in the term and are therefore exempt from tax during the holiday period if the sales price of the item is $250 or less. This list is all-inclusive.

Computer storage media, including diskettes and compact disks
Handheld electronic schdulers, except devices that are cellular phones
Personal digital assistants, except devices that are cellular phones
Computer printers
Printer supplies for computers, including printer paper and printer ink"

The only thing I'd consider venturing to a retail establishment on tax-free weekend for is a computer. It's just not worth putting up with the billion crazy people to save $15.

I bought a tennis raquet and $489 dollars of text books. That was also with a $10 coupon to the campus book store.

Yeah, textbooks are a ripoff at the NCSU bookstore. Same with any brick and mortar store, really. I'm going to scope out what books I can buy online and limit my bookstore purchases to the course packs and other stuff you can't get anywhere else. $150 for a damn textbook. That shit is highway robbery.

^My books weren't all that over priced I just had a lot of them. HI 406 has 21 required books, but that adds up to a lot even when most of them are less than $20. Then HI 404 has 3 and HI 467 has 4. That is a lot of reading. I already started tonight and e-mail one instruct asking where I should start.

^^ Yeah they aren't all over priced. When I worked there though it was more or less a known fact that the textbook department was what brought in a huge portion of the store's money, annually, and that they had ridiculous margins and charged people out the ass because they've got the location and, of course, they are the official campus bookstore. Online sales and other local bookstores are cutting into their business and forcing them to reduce prices, so it's not all bad news. While I don't want to see the bookstore run into the ground, I don't like unscrupulous business practices either.
