Is there a way to get a professor fired because of the horrible grade distributions. Check this out! http://www-records.ncsu.edu/cgi-bin/grddist3.pl?semyear=108&curr=ZO&num=150

Well, it's a 100 level class, which means it probably has attendance requirements, I bet that's how most of those Fs came about. 8/1/2008 5:52:00 PM |

This is his grade distribution for the first partial and it's not that way because of attendance.

That is the thing. Your answer is not good enough if it is not in the top 1% percentile. Suppose, I write a paragraph worth of information and another writes a page. I get half points. It's not simple as 2+2. 8/1/2008 6:02:40 PM |

I mean, if there was an easier professor, my friend would've gotten a better grade. But, the dude just is bad luck when it comes to professors. I don't understand how they stay this long. Doesn't the university have a policy of failing so many students. 8/1/2008 6:07:00 PM |

I had Heatwole for zo 150 and I got a b in there...one of the few classes I actually passed. Surprise, surprise, once of the few professors I actually learned something from.
Just cause you get a bad grade doesn't mean your professor is bad....
JUST SO YOU KNOW! All those review sessions that were held...all the questions on the test were given out. Everything he has on the tests are covered in class.

There is also the argument that universities have become lax on grading and give away A's too easily now for work that would have once warranted a C.

Appeal that shit.
Then you find out where he hides his bodies, and slowly expose them in front of him. Takes a while, but harming their perceived importance is best because most profs are egotistical assholes. 8/1/2008 6:09:30 PM |
lastsamurai Veteran 197 Posts user info edit post |
Sawash what was the year or semester you had him. You are not looking at the bigger picture. If half the class has a D or below, something is not right with the professor.

Heatwole isnt one of the professors that will hand out grades, you really honestly have to deserve it. So obviously your "friend" thought they could just continue with their high school habits and thought they could pull it off in the end. I made that mistake too.

ok i gotta call bullshit on this
the tone, you got it all wrong
people pay serious bucks to go to school and learn something. if the professor can't convey the subject matter with enough clarity, and his students repeatedly perform poorly over a long period of time, it reflects more poorly on him than it does on the students.
as far as the grade distribution, that should have been a warning sign, but often scheduling conflicts force students to bite the bullet and take the professor with the poor grade distribution. There shouldn't BE issues like this in the first place. Blaming it on the student for not taking the "easy way out" is erroneous to the overarching issue.8/1/2008 6:11:28 PM |

Nah, the hardest ones for me have always been when I wanted to learn, but the prof. literally told me not to stop by his office again because the other students weren't and he didn't want to give me any advantage. 8/1/2008 6:11:47 PM |

students pay to LEARN.
professors are paid to TEACH.
poor grades are the reflection of a failure in that nexus. poor grade distribution over a long period of time indicates that the teacher isn't holding up his end of the bargain. 8/1/2008 6:15:04 PM |

I really liked Heatwole. You know he ended up losing one of my test grades. I remember for a fact that I got a D on that test, it was my worst test all year. However, he e-mailed me and asked me if I had it. I told him that I didn't have it, and I didn't remember what the grade was.
He then e-mailed me back and said that since I had next to perfect attendence and all my other test grades were Bs and I made an A on the final he told me he would give me the grade needed to have a final grade of a B on that test he lost.
However, you have to go to his class and you have to study, and you have to go to the review sessions to be successful in his class. 8/1/2008 6:15:17 PM |
