I've paid for this kid's rent for two months and paid off his credit cards and helped with him with a litany of other things. Today, he wanted to go to Cary to get a laptop that he overpaid for. We both don't have cars, so cddweller gave us a ride. He needed a box for some coffee he was picking up as well. I told him the ABC Store would have some for free, but they didn't have any, and I didn't want to return empty-handed, so I paid $5 for one at the UPS Store.

When cddweller and I got back, he said he didn't want to use the box, since I paid for it, and "we're supposed to be saving money" (like the $600 laptop he just bought) . I get upset and walk away and then I pulled the box out of the car and threw it. As my bro was walking with the coffee, piled in his arms, I very easily knocked it out of his hands, so he threw some sucker punches at me, and me, having no upper body strength, or any manly means of defense, bit him.

Rent is due soon for next month and I'm not sure I feel like paying for him anymore.

Sorry to say it, but your brother sounds like a completely ungrateful SOB. I wouldn't throw another dime his way since he obviously has no concept of what you're trying to do for him. Tell him that if he can afford a $600 laptop he can afford rent. End of story. If he can't afford the rent tell him to sell the laptop and get a damn job. You should be done helping him until he gets a fucking clue.

It was actually pretty scary to watch the two of 'em go at it. I mean, if they were dogs, fur would have flown. It's hard to watch the one ya love fight a brother, especially under high-stress circumstances, and not being able to step in and break things up... best I could do was let 'em get it out of their system and watch for traffic.

I'm just glad the two of you didn't do any serious damage and that you've hopefully gotten it out of your system and blown off some steam.

The kid just needs to grow up and stop whining about everything. The more we try to help him, the worse he treats us. I wouldn't go so far as call it verbal abuse, but it's pretty much an attack on everything that exists in his vicinity. He just hates the world, and every now and again, it will blow up in his face. It happens to everyone else, he just isn't used to it happening to him.

And Spontaneous, although the violence was not warranted, I reckon it's something the two of you have done in the past, and are used to using as a way to clear your plate so to speak. My sister and I need to have a show-down every once in a while, it actually helps us in the long run. Although lately we've been getting to know each other a lot better. I do think that your paying his rent is enabling him to not get aggressive about his job search.

And I'm certainly glad the two of you don't know how to fight. If you did, I believe that thing would have gone on a lot longer than it did (which was very long to me, then again I grew up with a sister and we weren't physical at all).

Job search, there's no job search. If I was paying his rent he'd have a job tomorrow. He might not like it but he'd fucking have one that day even if it was working at Taco Bell. He can search for a better one on his days off since he isn't doing shit else.
