OK I don't want to hook up a PC to my televison permantley. However my computer desk is about 15 feet away from my television.

which way should I stream? basically which setup would you all recommend? Need to get sound to home theater too, and I have VGA in on the television. I have hooked up a VGA cable directly to play around (had to move the computer of course) and I know it works. I could use HDMI or VGA in.

oh yeah I want it for streaming multimedia NOT for gaming. should clarify that I suppose. I MIGHT just drop a blu ray drive in the PC if its worth doing.

Go DVI-to-HDMI for the video and optical for the audio.

I love it when these posts basically say "I'd prefer not to do this the easiest, cheapest, fastest way."

^Sounds like the most convenient/economical way to do it if you have one of those devices. Buying a dedicated streaming device is going to be more expense than its worth. If you go that route, wait until those linksys media devices and other comparable items include compatability for Hulu and Netflix. That being said... Xbox 360 is adding netflix support later this year and can stream from your computer fairly easily.

^^That's very limited to being a media extender. Granted that encompasses 95% of what anyone should want to do on a PC on a TV, but it is a limitation.

buy a ps3, put a wired connection to it (wifi sucks for streaming hd), and install your choice of media stream servers (nero media, windows media encoder, tversity, etc).

bluray support + ps1/ps2?/ps3 support + nearly any video file you want to play back with http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=131782
simple and does all you need and costs not much more than a bluray drive

well I didn't know if the cost of streaming and the technology was there yet- worth buying that is. Yeah PS3 then.
