Part of me will be cool with him doing really well with the Jets, then finally retiring for good...part of me will be rather happy if he destroys his legacy by absolutely bombing with the Jets and having their entire fanbase hate him. 8/7/2008 10:27:37 AM |

I've never been a Jets fan, but I'm happy about this b/c hopefully now Jerricho Cotchery will have a chance to shine. Favre likes the long ball and Cotchery will be the deep threat. 8/7/2008 10:30:50 AM |

I love it... I mean I liked Chad Pennington... that first season of his was probably the most fun I've ever had as a Jets fan... but with the investment this team made in the offseason they couldn't trust Kellen Clemens or post-injuries Chad Pennington to run the offense...
I mean I could care less about Green Bay, but this is huge for long suffering Jets fans like myself.
10-6 or 11-5... book it. Come on... they play in the Bills and Dolphins division... they'll get some W's.

Pennington will be traded. Favre will win the starting job over Clemens, who will be out with a season-ending injury. Around week 8, Favre will retire again and Eric Ainge will take over and lead the Jets! deep into the playoffs ala Brady.
There will be 100's of threads made by Jaybee in the next 5 years. 8/7/2008 12:08:08 PM |

Better yet maybe they'll break his frail ass

Absolutely. I about pissed my pants when I first saw this. However, it is sad to see Pennington leave. Despite the fact that he could not throw beyond 10 yards, I always liked him. Hopefully he doesn't go to Miami, like they are saying.8/8/2008 12:08:52 AM |

Jets still don't make the playoffs this year even with the godlike Brett Favre as QB. So he's going to learn the entire playbook in 3 weeks and develop the timing and familiarity with his whole offense in that time, just don't see it happening. I'm looking for Brett to have a similar year to his '05 campaign where he tossed 29 picks. 8/8/2008 7:00:47 AM |

One thing Favre made very clear to me during the presser is he is not emotional sold into playing for the NY Jets.
I fear he may have a lack of motivation when the going gets tough b/c this is a city not where he wants to be and in a team he is very ambivalent about. I think as the new leader of an NFL team you have to be 100% committed to getting the team to the playoffs and Super Bowl. Favre did not mention playoffs or leadership once. He basically said I'm here, I'll play.
I don't see the Jets making the playoffs. 8-8 or 9-7 at best this year. Not that it would be any better with Pennington, but unless attitudes change I don't think he is the savior some Jets fans think he is going to be.
But don't get me wrong, I'm still excited as hell. Very very excited 8/8/2008 10:33:13 AM |

I also couldn't help but notice that his college is listed as our arch-rival "North Carolina" which is much less exciting. If there's anyway this could be changed that would make me a much happier Jets fan.
Thank you,
