I need a quiet place to study late Friday and Saturday nights. A few of the libraries are open until 8 or 9pm fri/sat night at the latest. Any other ideas for quiet study places that are open late on the weekends? I get too distracted if I try to study at home..., thanks 8/11/2008 11:30:19 AM |

yeah, daniels hall is 24hr and is usually pretty quiet unless you get the ECE kids in there with their circuit boards chattering away 8/12/2008 8:53:20 AM |

Can you just walk into Daniels hall, or do you need an access card / key?
Yeah, I had this problem in the past. It's really pathetic that we are striving to be an elite university, yet we can't even provide one single place for members of the student body to study at night on the weekends.
My suggestions. Most of the dorms have study rooms, some you can access through the building, others require a key. Most of the time you can find people to let you in if you're lucky.
University Towers, the private dorm on Hillsborough Street, has a computer lab / study room on the first floor and study rooms on the other floors. Not sure if the study rooms require a key. Bum around the front door with your bookbag on and just follow someone inside.
I thought about this but I've never felt the need to try it, but going to a hospital to study wouldn't be a bad idea. I was at Wake Med earlier this year and there are some completely deserted lounges, waiting rooms, and other areas. Quiet, safe, open all night, snacks & drinks on site. 8/14/2008 2:26:23 PM |

the side door of daniels is open 24 hours. the front doors are locked after like 10pm and on the weekends which makes people think it's closed, but you just have to walk around to the side nearest withers. 8/16/2008 10:19:43 AM |

^ yeah, Daniels is open
so there is ONE SINGLE PLACE, at minimum
I have no idea why people want to study on weekends unless it's exam week
and/or why they can't stand to to it at home or in their dorm room
there are still more computer labs than the ones in Daniels open 24/7, if that's the issue

Yet she still comes off as a genius compared to you, go figure.
Just wake up early and study in the AM. Your mind will be fresher and there are tons of places open and empty on a Saturday/Sunday early morning. 8/17/2008 11:24:31 AM |

Pretty much all residence halls with a 24-hour desk have a Unity computer lab also available 24-hours. Some of our newer labs, such as Honors Village, Wolf Village, and a new space we created in the AFC lab, have plenty of room for you to spread out and study. They're lightly used late at night on weekends. 8/17/2008 5:40:17 PM |

just because I didn't have to study late on weekends to do well doesn't mean you have to take out your frustrations on me
if you manage your time well during the week, this shouldn't be an issue on weekends

Dude, the guy clearly indicated he wants somewhere "quiet"--AFC is hardly ever quiet. And late night it gets kind of thuggish and is often full of ECE majors.
Honors Village still has a 24-hour computer lab, I think, and you could probably use one of the conference rooms there, too.8/18/2008 3:37:58 AM |

hooksaw, in my humble opinion, as someone who has studied there many a time, i did not find it loud...it was not "thuggish" in my opinion either...on fridays and saturdays the "thugs" are not near the computer lab/study room(in my experiences)...the only people there are the dot people 8/18/2008 9:39:29 AM |

^ A couple of years ago, I was in AFC late at night on numerous occasions during which groups of drunk and/or high people were looking at porn and playing video games, among other conspicuous things unrelated to studying or coursework. I don't just make this shit up, dude.
Keep in mind that I'm not coming down on having a buzz, porn, or video games. I'm just saying that there's a time and place for everything. And if this guy wants quiet, I don't recommend AFC for it. 8/18/2008 10:10:56 AM |

learn to study at home and quite whining. goes for the rest of you who bitch about ncsu not having places to study. they have plenty of places, but if YOU can't find one you bitch. well how about going home and using your own space for studying? 8/19/2008 7:18:41 AM |

Seriously! I mean what the hell is wrong with expecting a huge institution keeping quiet places for those to study? 8/19/2008 7:22:27 AM |

^the thing is, is that they do. However, the best/most popular spots are obviously taken first, and that's when these people bitch. I've seen/heard people bitching about not having a place to study, meanwhile, I'll be in a building, and see tables open, classrooms, lounges, etc.
Just because your favorite places are taken, doesn't mean there is no where to study. 8/19/2008 7:28:14 AM |

Truth. Security may be a bit of an issue. When visiting hours are over most people need some sort of badge or tag to access certain areas. But there are some really nice quiet spots at most hospitals.8/19/2008 8:21:05 AM |

Seriously, I guess they don't make Sundays like they used too. Maybe I could see fri/sat night studying on exam week, but the first week of classes??? Get out some!
edit to add: Saturday from breakfast to dinner is optimal study time too.
