my wife missed her period by 5 days and so she took one of those EPT tests this morning...it was a positive. Disbelieving, she took another brand on her next trip to the bathroom...positive.

A BIG WTF!

But she doesnt have morning sickness or anything that's supposed to be there? What are you supposed to do now to be sure? How accurate are they, anyone have any first hand?

They are pretty accurate. Morning sickness (which not all women have) usually doesn't start until she is pregnant for 3-4 weeks.

Two positive tests would be proof enough for me, but you can go to a doctor's office and have a test done there if you want more proof.

^^^ Not always the case. My mother in law had morning sickness the day after she got pregnant, and I believe it took my mom around 2.5 months before she started having "symptoms."

wow, sort of in disbelief here. Does no morning sickness suggest high chance of miscarriage?

no. The lack of morning sickness is meaningless. Some women have it, and some don't.

My wife had no morning sickness. We did not have a miscarriage.

you can wait for a few days (like maybe 1 to 2 weeks actually) and go get a blood test. that will give you almost 100% accuracy.

Just to clarify, I asked the miscarriage out of concern not out of any desire to not have a kid. It's not like I don't want one...I'm sort of excited...but also sort of in disbelief here and ummm, wasn't expecting it anywhere near this early.

So umm, yeah. Wow. Thanks for the insight here you guys, I know ZILCH about this shit.

haha, can't make these threads without obligatory abortion jokes.

Not that I mind, but when it's yours and you are shitting your drawers its just a nervous laugh.

my understanding is that they get more accurate the day after the expected period is suppose to start. So 5 days after is like 99.9%

^^^^ no, i can imagine...i think i might remove the pictures, since this is the lounge and not chit chat

in either case, i wish you the best of luck, no matter what choice you make or what happens...i think i'd be pulling the nervous laugh, too, but as much because i'm not married (and it's not a religious thing, but more a taking care of the child thing) as anything

good luck, yo

they're pretty darn accurate - I tested positive before on like 3 - dollar store ones and then went to the doctor and they told me I wasn't pregnant - a week later, doctor told me I was - had a miscarriage though, oh well

Congratulations!

I had morning sickness - started when I was 5 weeks and lasted until 7 months.
My friend is 26 weeks and hasn't had any morning sickness.

I'd go to the doctor so they can determine how far along she is and start her on prenatal care.

Haha, when my wife got confirmation from the second test she ran into the bathroom, locked the door, and stayed in there for an hour. I was drunk by the time she got out

Between stuff like this and the boner thread, sd2nc might be one of my favorites on this site.
