According to this cockbag, TOB = master of mediocrity and PJ = 2nd coming of Lombardi. I like Paul Johnson, I would have been happy with him, but I'm now convinced that TOB was the right man for the job. This article pisses me right off. Am I just being an overemotional, irrational Wolfpack fan?

Quote :
"Don't hire Navy's Paul Johnson, when you had the chance, as your football coach. That's a mistake. That was North Carolina State's mistake 21 months ago, and for 21 months, the Wolfpack have gotten away with it. They hired Tom O'Brien from Boston College in December 2006, and there's nothing wrong with hiring Tom O'Brien. His first year was a 5-7 struggle, but in the long run he'll win more than he loses, and he'll do it the right way. Nothing about him foretells a BCS bowl bid, but this is North Carolina State, not Florida State. And for North Carolina State, hiring Tom O'Brien wasn't a mistake. "

Paul Johnson was an OC at Hawaii. Doyel was born and raised in Hawaii.

There's still plenty of people that he draws in. He has a segment where he just reads hate mail, haha.

^^^^ why would I?

I think Paul Johnson is a good coach but the problem with that style of play is that now days you wont get top line talent except maybe at OL. A kid with NFL skills isnt going to go there. That's the whole reason Nebraska went away from it, they were still a really really really good team when they switched to a pro style offense. Will it work for a few years? yes, just because its so damn weird and teams will be hard pressed to spend the time needed to prepare for it just because its one game and they wont see that offense the rest of the season.

it works for Florida and Texas and Southern Cal, etc...so yeah, I guess most people do want new fangled offenses

He just wants people to argue with him. You could say matter-of-factly that the triple option is an antiquated, unbalanced system unfit for major college football, which explains BCS teams' reluctance to offer him a position despite his previous accomplishments, and he would just offer a dumb retort.

Doyel doesn't just troll NC State, pretty much every fanbase hates him.

And if you go to any message board from a major BCS school, you will find that the people there think Doyel hates them more than any other school.

He's just really good at his job, and his job is to write articles that will get people from the school pissed, make rival schools laugh, and attract as many page hits as possible.

I really hate Doyel, but I think I hate Fowler even more which is actually making me tend to side with what he has to say in his article.

You really can't deny that PJ might have been a better Wolpacker than TOB. You can't deny that Grobe has been able to employ a gimmicky offense and won an ACC title with it. Who's to say PJ is going to stick exclusively with his system and not mix in more open elements with better quality players?

Don't get so caught up on the word "magical". The man did well for us before the loss of that entire Herb class kicked him in the @$$, remember?

I don't think anyone ever does not expect results from him to stay on as our coach.... same goes to O'Brien... they are the professionals... we are the message boarders, remember?

This has got to be one of the most idiotic posts in sports talk lately. I can and do deny that PJ might have been a better Wolfpacker than TOB. TOB has done nothing but win games in both the Big East and the ACC, while PJ has been beating awesome teams like Duke, Stanford, and Temple at Navy. TOB was obviously the better hire and anyone who thinks otherwise is retarded.
