Saturn Vue's have really good mpg for the space they get. Best MPG and horsepower of any SUV out there.
Get anything that's got good MPG because of the gas prices. Or a hybrid. OR something really good quality. German FTW fo reals. 8/15/2008 7:59:57 PM |

if you want the most trouble-free, most reliable, cheapest to maintain/repair, highest residual value, highest mileage, then go with toyota or honda. they are also one of the cheapest cars to buy (other than suzukis, daihatsus, hyundais, and kias, but i don't think you are considering those). if you want affordable decent performance and luxury, go with the 3 series, but it will cost a lot more in the long run, and more to buy as well.
but, aren't you in IT? don't IT people make tons of money? if so, this is the perfect family car to get with plenty of room for the baby's supplies:

i like owning a minivan. it's got enough space that i don't feel claustrophobic. honda odyssey are great vehicles, but they keep getting heavier and worse on gas. wtf honda.
of course my kid still rides in a car seat, so once he starts using a booster seat, driving around in a sedan won't seem so cramped. 8/15/2008 9:09:27 PM |

Well, since you're thinking from small to midsize, give the mazda 3/6 and the honda fit a look as well. If you want something more practical for hauling stupid amounts of stuff around (like three kids and your firearms collection), look for a wagon (or one of those smaller crossover utes that all those damn automakers are producing instead of wagons). Minivans are nifty and a lot of them have a surprising amount of get up and go (compared to a corolla anyway), but gas mileage is pretty suck and they're really TOO big, considering. 8/15/2008 10:31:56 PM |

sorry was out/about and posting on my phone when i made the thread so didn't get in a lot of detail
i almost certainly will want a 4 door sedan with high reliability and good to excellent gas mileage and < $25k. the corolla and civic fit perfectly in this category but corollas are lame. i'm better than a corolla. i already have a camry so that's not what i mean either. i did look at the madza 3 a couple years ago, not sure i'm comfortable with mazda reliability though. i like the look of the scion tc but the interior is a little too plasticy and sometimes i think it's a girl car. i'd love to get a lexus GS but i'm not that baller 8/16/2008 12:23:05 AM |

we got an toyota echo a couple years ago. great gas mileage, and a hell of a lot more roomy on the inside than it looks from the outside. large trunk space too. but small enough to park nearly anywhere.
super reliable car. but i think they were officially replaced with the yaris. 8/16/2008 12:27:55 AM |

^^^make a slight compromise and get a Civic Si. Its fun, and should be practical enough for you.
^^that car was rearended by another car going like 40-50mph faster. The interior looks fine, so whats your point exactly?

I was at Auction Direct and found an 2005 Acura MDX, 2007 Mustang GT convertible, and a 2005 Toyota Solara all with great mileage, within my price range, and in great shape. The choice is obvious, but because I couldn't decide on 1 of the 3, I figured maybe it's not the time in my life to get an expensive car lol. 8/16/2008 12:35:23 AM |

Get an Audi A4 or S4. A4 if you want a small-midsize luxury car that still gets decent gas mileage or the S4 if you want the same car but with not as good gas mileage but a whole lot more fun factor. 8/16/2008 12:36:53 AM |

^^Okay I was half guessing, b/c that looks just like my friend's Scion that that happened to. Hell, same color too!
BTW, I still don't see the point of posting that photo. The passenger area still looks very intact. So what is your point? 8/16/2008 12:45:38 AM |
skeeter IDFWY 1538 Posts user info edit post |
I will agree with you on the fact that the passenger area did hold up quite nicely. But when you do 25g's worth of damage to a car that was booked at 19g's its really not worth spending the money on. My point was qntmfred had said he like the TC but the interior looked "plasticy", well the interior isnt the only thing thats "plasticy"
