My sister found her dog abandoned, mangey and pitiful as shit. She took her in, cleaned up the poop all over her body (she was chained for a long period of time), had her checked out at the vet and it turns out the dog was dragged behind a car and suffered some major damage. A year and a half later she's doing a lot better, but one thing she hasn't been able to learn is how to be let off the leash and not wander. If she so much as gets out the front door she disappears. However, we would like to give her more excercise that we can't provide when she's on the leash (as we can't run nearly as fast as she can). It'll be nice to let her off the leash in an area that is closed in, like a park, where she'll not get lost.
Any locations in mind? 8/15/2008 11:41:02 PM |

I'm kinda worried about that. Katie has no social prowess to speak of... I think that in her former life she was put up against other dogs a lot. But as long as she can fend for herself... 8/15/2008 11:45:00 PM |

hmm... not sure then, if you go at certain times there are hardly any people/dogs in there
but yea, if she's not comfortable with dogs at all, it could be a bad experience 8/15/2008 11:48:16 PM |

Heh. We need to take her to a prison exercise yard at 2am. 8/15/2008 11:58:34 PM |

If you're in south Raleigh, you can try the Carolina Pines dog park off of Lake Wheeler. They have 2 fenced-in areas that are separate from other dogs but still are big enough for your sister's dog to get exercise and smell other dogs.
good luck! 8/16/2008 12:28:19 AM |

Thanks, we'll check out both areas. As long as they're completely closed in so there's no chance of losing her.
This is her, btw.

16531 posts and you are still new to this.
We need to instill a TWW tutorial feature.
step 1: if you can google the answer you are looking for please don't post said question.

i'll be at carolina pines later this afternoon
they have one section that i have yet to ever see anyone in (it's smaller, for sure, but you would be able to let her off the leash and not really have any other dogs around)
either way, carolina pines is the quietest, most low-key dog park around here that i've found so far...stay away from millbrook exchange 8/16/2008 8:26:39 AM |

I'm headed to Carolina Pines this afternoon too!
I'm kind of nervous because my dog is a lot of bark, and I really do mean A LOT. He thinks he's ferocious but he's really playful if the other dogs let him get close enough so I'm not sure how that's going to go over.] 8/16/2008 10:59:26 AM |

pretty much...when i went there in the evenings, it was nice most of the time, but afternoons and saturdays you can keep it...i've had more bad experiences with craptastic owners who don't watch their over-aggressive dogs (mostly non-neutered and a lot of pits, i might add) that cause fights8/16/2008 1:08:44 PM |

I just got back from Carolina Pines and we had a blast!
The dog owners out there were very friendly and they would even put their dogs in time out if they were overly aggressive towards anybody.
I'd choose this one over Milbrook any day, I thought Millbrook wass kind of crappy compared to this area and the dogs get a huge place to run around at CPs. 8/16/2008 1:24:17 PM |

i go to millbrook almost every weekend and love it. There are plenty of dogs and usually people are pretty good about monitoring their dogs.8/17/2008 10:28:32 AM |
