Anyone have a recommendation?

This seems to have mixed reviews (bad chargers and such)
I'm really interested in saving a little money and being a little more green every time i've got to mow. 8/18/2008 2:24:53 PM |

Homelite is a shit company an electric lawn mower would be nice (quiet) but homelite only makes shit... so i would stay away from THAT one but maybe look for a more robust electric mower 8/18/2008 2:33:06 PM |

I've heard good things about electric lawn mowers in general (quiet as heck, very easy to start, no gas or oil needed). As long as your lawn isn't huge, I'd go for it.
I agree with sumfoo1, what he said 8/18/2008 2:39:03 PM |

I agree with above...stay away from Homelite products. They are shitty products. I bought a Homelite string trimmer and it fell apart after two days. I have heard similar stories from many others. 8/18/2008 3:44:33 PM |

as odd as this sounds, i like electric mowers that have to have a cord. yes, i am proud to say i've never run over my extension cord. 8/18/2008 3:47:07 PM |

not only what ^^^ said (i don't think you'll find too many 2-stroke mowers made in the past 5 years are so that aren't complete crap), but i picked up a 2-year old 6.75hp craftsman (briggs & stratton engine) self-propelling with a bag and mulching option for $100 off craigslist...it also has this "EZ-start" feature that makes pulling the cord virtually effortless
it takes me just shy of 4 hours to mow both my front and back yard, and i can do it with one tank of gas
for $100, you can get a pretty powerful mulching machine that is efficient, easy to start, and requires very little maintenance...i think you'd have to do a lot of mowing to make up for the difference in cost that an electric mower will cost you
in terms of being green...i'll direct you to my "lawnless landscaping" article when it's published next month...you'll be more green in the long run by utilizing landscaping that doesn't require mowing or chemicals and yet provides something nice to look at, herbs, and a way to naturally control insect populations

black & decker makes a pretty nice one that my dad bought a year or two ago. Works really good, very quiet. The only down side is that it uses an extension cord so large lawns would be a hassle. But it's very light and surprisingly easy to maneuver.
This is the one we have: http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=2508
They also have this one: http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=16345 8/18/2008 4:09:06 PM |

Cordless electric mowers usually go about an hour on a full charge. 8/18/2008 6:33:13 PM |
